Job Title: Senior Legal Counsel

Location: Lekki, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time

Description

  • The Senior Legal Counsel is the Company's principal legal adviser and is responsible for leading the Legal Department, delivering commercially sound legal solutions, and advising executive management on matters of legal and strategic significance across all areas of the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Legal Leadership: Lead and manage the Legal Department, set priorities and performance standards, manage external counsel, and maintain legal templates and knowledge systems.
  • Corporate & Commercial: Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on commercial contracts, partnerships, financing arrangements, and corporate transactions.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Lead the Company's compliance programme across all jurisdictions. Monitor regulatory developments and advise on implications, particularly in fintech, payments, digital assets, AML/CFT, and data protection. Oversee licensing, regulatory filings, and regulatory engagements.
  • Corporate Governance: Advise the Board and management on governance matters. Oversee company secretarial functions, corporate filings, and statutory records.
  • Litigation & Dispute Resolution: Law enforcement liaison, Manage litigation, arbitration, and regulatory investigations. Instruct external counsel and oversee dispute strategy and settlement negotiations.
  • Risk Management: Identify legal and regulatory risks across the business, develop mitigation strategies, and maintain internal legal and compliance policies.
  • Intellectual Property: Oversee the Company's IP protection strategy including trademarks, licensing, and brand protection.
  • Government & Regulatory Engagement: Represent the Company in engagements with regulators, government agencies, and industry bodies.
  • Training & Reporting: Deliver legal and compliance training. Prepare legal risk reports for management and the Board.
