Job Title: Team Lead
Location: Calabar, Cross River
Position Summary
- The Team Lead – Calabar provides field leadership for the delivery of protection services to Cameroonian refugees and host communities in Calabar Axis.
- The role ensures effective implementation of GBV, child protection, legal assistance, and community-based protection activities, while promoting accountability, safeguarding, and alignment with UNHCR standards and Caritas Nigeria’s frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Oversight:
- Lead protection monitoring, GBV response, and legal assistance activities in Calabar Municipal and surrounding LGAs.
- Ensure interventions are rights-based, survivor-centered, inclusive, and culturally appropriate.
- Supervise case identification, referrals, and service delivery for survivors of GBV, children at risk, and individuals facing rights violations.
- Integrate awareness and protection messaging into community events (e.g., Calabar Carnival) to strengthen refugee inclusion.
- Supervise and mentor protection monitors and established community structures.
- Strengthen staff capacity on protection intervention for quality service provision.
- Strengthen and maintain accessible feedback and complaints mechanisms for refugees and host communities.
- Strengthening community engagements through focus group discussions, town halls, and community dialogues to elevate community voices.
- Ensure inclusive participation of women, youth, and persons with disabilities in decision-making processes.
Coordination & Partnerships:
- Represent Caritas Nigeria in CP/GBV Working Groups, Child Protection Networks, and other coordination forums.
- Strengthen collaboration with UNHCR, government agencies (e.g., Ministry of Women Affairs, Police, Immigration), NGOs, and Refugee-Led Organizations.
- Support advocacy efforts to improve protection pathways and strengthen institutional accountability.
Safeguarding & Risk Management:
- Implement fraud prevention and SEAH mitigation frameworks in Calabar operations, based on Caritas Internationalis PSEA framework.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, International Development, Social Work, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 4–5 years of humanitarian protection experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or coordination role.
- Strong knowledge of international protection standards, GBV programming, and accountability frameworks.
- Proven ability to manage multi-sectoral projects and coordinate with diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working in Cross River or similar displacement-affected contexts is an advantage.
