We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Business Development Officer

Location: Lagos

Job Purpose

  • The Business Development Officer is responsible for driving revenue growth by identifying, pursuing, and converting new business opportunities for the company's training and human capacity development programs.
  • The role builds and manages relationships with corporate, government, and institutional clients, develops proposals and training solutions tailored to client needs, and supports the company's broader growth strategy within the Group's portfolio of businesses.

Key Responsibilties

  • Lead Generation & Prospecting: Identify and generate new business leads across corporate, public sector, NGO, and institutional clients requiring training, capacity building, or organizational development interventions.
  • Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with existing and prospective clients, serving as a trusted point of contact for their training and capacity development needs.
  • Proposal Development: Prepare compelling training proposals, quotations, and pitch presentations tailored to client requirements, working with the Training/Content team to design relevant program offerings.
  • Market Research & Intelligence: Monitor market trends, competitor offerings, and industry developments in the training and human capacity development space to identify new opportunities and inform pricing/positioning.
  • Sales Target Achievement: Consistently meet or exceed assigned revenue and client acquisition targets, tracking pipeline and sales activity through the company's CRM or sales tracking systems.
  • Negotiation & Deal Closure: Negotiate training contracts, pricing, and terms with clients, ensuring profitable deals that align with company policy and capacity.
  • Account Management & Retention: Manage a portfolio of existing clients, identifying opportunities for repeat business, upselling, and cross-selling of additional training programs or Group services.
  • Event & Networking Representation: Represent the company at industry events, conferences, exhibitions, and networking forums to build brand visibility and generate business leads.
  • Cross-Selling Across the Group: Identify opportunities to introduce clients to other relevant products or services offered by sister companies within the Group.
  • Reporting: Prepare regular business development reports, sales forecasts, and pipeline updates for management review.
  • Client Feedback & Quality Assurance: Gather client feedback post-training delivery to ensure satisfaction, address concerns, and identify opportunities for repeat engagements.

Key Perfomance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Revenue generated against assigned sales targets.
  • Number of new clients acquired within a given period.
  • Client retention and repeat business rate.
  • Number of proposals submitted and conversion rate.
  • Growth in sales pipeline value.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • 2-4 years' experience in business development, sales, or client relationship management, preferably within the training, consulting, HR, or education/L&D industry.
  • Demonstrated track record of meeting or exceeding sales/revenue targets.
  • Experience selling to corporate, government, or institutional clients is an advantage.
  • A professional certification in sales, marketing, or HR (e.g. CIPM, CIM) is an added advantage.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong sales and negotiation skills, with a persuasive and consultative selling approach.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong relationship-building and networking skills, with the ability to engage confidently with senior client stakeholders.
  • Good understanding of the training, learning & development, or human capacity development industry.
  • Proactive, target-driven, and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently to generate business.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple client relationships and proposals simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with CRM tools.
  • Creativity in packaging and positioning training solutions to meet diverse client needs.

Key Relationships:

  • Internal: Managing Director/Head of Business Development, Training/Content Team, Finance, Marketing, and sister companies within the Group.
  • External: Corporate clients, government agencies, NGOs, institutional buyers, and industry partners.

Work Conditions:

  • Standard office hours, with flexibility required for client meetings, site visits, and industry events, including occasional travel.
  • Role is target-driven and may require work outside standard hours to meet client and business needs.
