Job Summary

  • We are seeking an experienced and technically competent Gas Generator Operator to join our Power Plant & Utility team.
  • The ideal candidate must have hands-on experience working with a Wärtsilä Power Plant or Wärtsilä Engine and possess strong knowledge of power generation, electrical and mechanical systems, equipment maintenance, and plant utilities.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring uninterrupted power supply to the plant and the safe, efficient, and reliable operation and maintenance of power generation and utility equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure uninterrupted power supply to the plant and smooth operation of the 132/33kV substation, gas generators, HFO sets, and their auxiliaries.
  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical malfunctions or failures in operational equipment and carry out preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Perform emergency repairs, equipment assembly, overhauling, and other maintenance activities as required.
  • Monitor and support the generation and transmission of electricity and the operation of related equipment and systems.
  • Operate and maintain equipment including Wärtsilä gas generator sets, HFO sets, fuel and lube oil separators, heat exchangers, HRU, air handling systems, cooling towers, fuel and gas handling systems, transformers, electric generators, electric motors, HT/LT panels, power electronics, SCADA/WOIS, and instrumentation systems.
  • Apply knowledge of various fuels, combustion processes, and prime movers to ensure efficient plant operations.
  • Ensure adequate availability of critical spare parts and conduct quality checks on consumables.
  • Monitor the usage and inventory of spare parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment performance, maintenance activities, spare parts, and consumables.
  • Promote and maintain a strong culture of Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety (HSE) and compliance with applicable management system requirements.
  • Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Integrated Management System (IMS).
  • Ensure all power plant operations and maintenance activities are carried out safely and in accordance with established procedures and standards.

Requirements

  • B.Tech./B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering or HND in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in a power plant, FMCG, or manufacturing environment.
  • Mandatory: Proven hands-on experience working with a Wärtsilä Power Plant or Wärtsilä Engine.
  • Strong knowledge of gas generators, HFO generator sets, and power plant operations.
  • Good understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, power generation, and transmission.
  • Experience in preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, emergency repairs, and equipment overhauling.
  • Knowledge of transformers, generators, motors, HT / LT panels, SCADA, instrumentation, and related power plant systems.
  • Good knowledge of fuel systems, combustion processes, prime movers, and utility equipment.
  • Strong understanding of HSE and environmental requirements in a power generation or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and emergencies.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Important: Candidates without practical experience working with a Wärtsilä Power Plant or Wärtsilä Engine will not be considered.

Salary
N250,000 - N300,000 monthly
