Job Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist (Histo-Pathology Specialty)

Job Summary

  • We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Scientist (Histopathology) to join our laboratory team.
  • The successful candidate will support accurate diagnosis through the preparation, processing, and analysis of tissue specimens while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, label, process, and maintain proper records of tissue specimens.
  • Perform tissue fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, and routine/special staining.
  • Prepare high-quality microscope slides for histopathological examination.
  • Support immunohistochemistry procedures and other relevant diagnostic tests.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot histopathology equipment.
  • Carry out internal quality-control procedures and participate in quality-assurance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety procedures, infection-prevention standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory documentation, inventory, and reagent records.
  • Work collaboratively with pathologists, laboratory colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Provide initiatives & train lab interns.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related discipline.
  • Current practising licence with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).
  • Relevant experience in a histopathology laboratory is preferred.
  • Demonstrable competence in tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and slide preparation.
  • Knowledge of histochemical and immunohistochemistry techniques is an advantage.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good record-keeping, communication, and time-management skills.
