Job Description and Expectation
- The Portfolio Manager ensures the coordination of all investment activities across traditional asset classes are geared towards ensuring continuous innovation and profitability.
- He/she also is also tasked with creating an enabling environment to foster idea generation and innovation as well as improve overall efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Generate fundamental investment research and actionable trade ideas that inform portfolio decisions and drive implementation across asset classes
- Define and document the monthly investment strategy as a key input to portfolio construction and positioning
- Monitor positioning, performance, and risk exposure on assigned portfolios against benchmarks, and recommend adjustments where warranted.
- Conduct market intelligence to identify the drivers, sentiment, and dislocations shaping asset prices
- Identify, assess, and monitor investment opportunities to determine profitable entry and exit points
- Collate and analyze macro and company data to support quantitative and qualitative research at both the micro and macro level
- Prepare and present investment strategy and performance reports to the portfolio management team and CIO on a periodic basis
- Contribute to a collaborative investment process — participating in internal meetings and openly sharing themes, developments, and ideas
Educational / Professional Qualification
- BSc Degree from a reputable Tertiary Institution.
- Relevant postgraduate (MSc, MBA) and/or professional qualification (CFA etc) would be an added advantage.
- Prior experience in managing a portfolio of securities with a proven track record of producing strong risk adjusted returns
- Strong understanding of market cycles, drivers and characteristics with experience applying this knowledge to portfolio management positioning
- Ability to work independently but also to delegate and solicits feedback/guidance from superiors
- Demonstrated ability to learn new programs and to proficiently use and interpret data provided by software tools
Key Skills and Competencies Requirements:
- Knowledge of Insurance Industry/Investment Business.
- Intermediary level for excel database analysis and Bloomberg skills.
- A proven track record of strong fundamental micro and macro research.
- Technology Savvy with strong Ms Office Skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio)
- Very strong background in the financial markets and asset management business and processes.
- Strong aptitude in decision-making, time management and problem solving.
- Understanding of financial market instruments.
- Strong financial and cash modelling skills.
