Job Title: Pipeline Inspector
Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers
Employment Type: Contract
Function: Pipeline Construction and Integrity Inspection
Reports to: Pipeline QA/QC Lead / Construction QA/QC Engineer
Supervises: None
Role Purpose
Inspect pipeline construction, tie-in, testing, coating, and reinstatement activities to ensure the installed pipeline meets approved design, code, integrity, and client requirements and is supported by complete construction records.
Key Responsibilities
- Review route drawings, alignment sheets, isometrics, material specifications, WPS/PQRs, ITPs, test procedures, and approved construction methods.
- Verify pipe, fittings, valves, flanges, consumables, heat numbers, coating condition, storage, handling, and material traceability.
- Inspect joint preparation, fit-up, alignment, preheat, welding parameters, welder qualifications, weld identification, and weld mapping.
- Coordinate VT and NDT, review results and repair status, and ensure accepted welds are released before coating or concealment.
- Inspect field-joint coating, holiday testing, lowering-in, padding, crossings, trench condition, backfill, markers, and cathodic-protection interfaces.
- Witness gauging, cleaning, pressure testing, dewatering, drying, leak testing, reinstatement, and pre-commissioning activities.
- Verify tie-ins, dimensional control, flange management, bolt tightening, valve orientation, supports, and interface points at facilities.
- Raise and close observations, punch items, and NCRs; prevent unauthorised repairs or bypass of ITP hold points.
- Maintain daily reports, weld/NDT/coating/test registers, red-line records, and pipeline handover dossier inputs.

- Pipeline test packs accepted first pass
- No unauthorised concealed work or missed hold points
- Complete weld, coating, test, and as-built records
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Requirements:
- HND or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Welding, Materials/Metallurgical, Pipeline, or a related discipline.
- Typically 7 or more years of pipeline construction or integrity inspection experience in oil and gas.
- Hands-on knowledge of pipeline welding, NDT, field-joint coating, hydrotesting, lowering-in, reinstatement, and documentation.
- Ability to read alignment sheets, isometrics, weld maps, test packs, and pipeline specifications.
- Readiness to work along rights-of-way, remote locations, terminals, crossings, or live-facility interfaces.
Preferred Certifications and Standards Knowledge:
- CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector and ASNT/ISO 9712 Level II are strongly preferred.
- AMPP/NACE coating certification is advantageous.
- Working knowledge of ASME B31.4/B31.3 as applicable, ASME Section IX, API requirements, ASTM materials standards, and client pipeline specifications.
