Job Title: Safety Officer

Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

• A proactive Safety Officer who will be responsible for implementing and monitoring the company's Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
• The successful candidate will play a key role in preventing workplace incidents and fostering a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement and monitor HSSE policies, procedures, and standards across company operations.
• Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
• Identify workplace hazards and recommend appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and prepare detailed reports.
• Organize and conduct safety inductions, toolbox talks, and employee safety training.
• Monitor contractor compliance with company safety requirements.
• Coordinate emergency preparedness activities, including drills and response plans.
• Maintain accurate HSSE records, reports, and documentation.
• Promote a positive safety culture through continuous awareness and engagement initiatives.
• Liaise with regulatory agencies during inspections and audits where required.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related discipline.
• Must have 2–5 years' relevant HSSE experience in the downstream oil and gas industry.
• Professional certification such as NEBOSH, ISPON, HSE 1 -3 qualification is required.
• Knowledge of Nigerian oil and gas safety regulations and industry best practices.
• Strong understanding of risk assessment, incident investigation, emergency response, and permit-to-work systems.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and report-writing skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
