We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Construction QA / QC Engineer

Location: Port Harcourt - Rivers
Job Type: Full time

Reports to: Construction Manager / Project QA/QC Manager
Supervises: Discipline QC Inspectors, as assigned

Role Purpose

  • Embed quality controls in field execution and coordinate multidisciplinary inspection from construction readiness through mechanical completion, ensuring work is right first time and supported by complete, traceable records.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review construction work packs, drawings, method statements, ITPs, procedures, material availability, competence, and inspection resources before release to site.
  • Coordinate quality coverage for civil, structural, mechanical, piping, welding, coating, insulation, fireproofing, hydrotest, and calibration activities.
  • Conduct pre-activity meetings and communicate quality-critical steps, hold points, tolerances, and acceptance criteria to supervisors and inspectors.
  • Monitor contractor workmanship, material traceability, equipment calibration, environmental controls, and compliance with approved procedures.
  • Manage inspection requests, surveillance reports, punch lists, NCRs, repair plans, reinspection, and closure evidence.
  • Track weld, NDT, coating, test-pack, and system-completion status against the construction schedule and prioritise constraints.
  • Interface with engineering to resolve technical queries and with commissioning to define turnover boundaries and record requirements.
  • Verify mechanical completion, reinstatement, cleanliness, preservation, as-built mark-ups, and dossier completeness before system handover.
  • Analyse rework and defect trends and lead focused improvement actions with construction teams and subcontractors.

  • Inspection-request and punch-item turnaround
  • NDT, coating, and pressure-test acceptance trends
  • Systems handed over with complete dossiers to schedule
  • Repeat defects and overdue NCRs reduced

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Mechanical, Civil, Materials/Metallurgical, Welding, Construction, or a related discipline.
  • Typically 8 or more years of construction QA/QC experience on multidisciplinary oil and gas, EPC, terminal, pipeline, tank, or industrial projects.
  • Demonstrated experience with construction work packs, ITPs, mechanical completion, test packs, punch management, and QA dossiers.
  • Strong field leadership and the ability to balance schedule priorities with uncompromised technical requirements.
  • Competence in contractor coordination, technical reporting, and construction quality data analysis.

Preferred Certifications and Standards Knowledge:

  • CSWIP 3.1, ASNT/ISO 9712 Level II, and/or AMPP/NACE coating certification are advantageous.
  • ISO 9001 auditor training is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ASME B31 series and Section IX, API 650/653/570, AWS D1.1, ASTM, and client construction specifications.
