Injustice Is Real (IIR) is a dynamic initiative advocating for Nigerians facing human rights violations both at home and in the diaspora. We amplify the voices of victims, champion their rights, and shine a light on injustice to drive meaningful change.

Our work includes supporting cases of wrongful convictions, assisting with appeals, and working alongside legal professionals to challenge injustice and secure fair outcomes.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Paralegal / Junior Lawyer (Volunteer)

The Role

  • We are looking for enthusiastic and committed Paralegals and Junior Lawyers who are eager to develop their legal skills while contributing to meaningful public interest work.
  • This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain practical litigation and case management experience while working alongside experienced legal practitioners.
  • You will support appeals, legal research, case preparation, and strategic litigation projects that directly improve access to justice.
  • Selected projects may involve collaboration with leading international law firms and justice-sector partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct legal research and case analysis.
  • Assist with evidence gathering and document management.
  • Draft legal documents, correspondence, and case summaries.
  • Support preparation of court processes, appeals, and legal filings.
  • Assist with case management and legal administration.
  • Collaborate with senior lawyers and legal volunteers on selected legal projects.
  • Support legal clinics and other public interest initiatives where required.

Essential Requirements

  • LLB and BL qualification, or a recognised paralegal qualification.
  • Newly qualified lawyers and early-career legal practitioners are encouraged to apply.
  • Previous paralegal or legal support experience is desirable.
  • Good understanding of Nigerian law and legal procedures.
  • Strong legal research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Commitment to public interest and pro bono legal work.

Selection Process

  • Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interview.
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide:
    • One professional reference from a Senior Legal Practitioner.
    • One academic or professional character reference.
