Job Title: Senior Litigation Counsel (Pro Bono Appeals & Justice Initiative)

The Role
- We are expanding our specialist appeals and strategic litigation team and are seeking experienced Nigerian litigators passionate about applying their legal expertise to make a meaningful social impact.
- This opportunity is ideal for experienced litigation lawyers with strong advocacy and appellate experience who are committed to public interest work. Successful applicants will contribute to wrongful conviction appeals, complex litigation, and strategic justice initiatives while collaborating with a network of Nigerian and international legal professionals.
- Selected projects may involve collaboration with leading international law firms and justice-sector partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead or support appeals involving wrongful convictions and complex legal disputes.
- Prepare appellate briefs, legal arguments, pleadings, and court processes.
- Develop litigation strategy for appellate and superior court matters.
- Conduct advanced legal research and legal drafting.
- Provide pro bono legal assistance to vulnerable and underserved individuals.
- Contribute to strategic litigation and justice reform initiatives.
- Mentor junior lawyers, interns, and legal volunteers where appropriate.
- Collaborate remotely with Nigerian and international legal professionals on selected legal projects.
Essential Requirements
- Qualified Legal Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
- LLB and BL qualifications.
- Minimum of five years’ post-call experience.
- Demonstrable litigation experience before superior courts.
- Strong legal research, drafting, and advocacy skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently within a remote team.
- Commitment to public interest and pro bono legal work.
Desirable:
- Experience before the Court of Appeal and/or Supreme Court.
- Background in appellate advocacy, criminal litigation, constitutional law, or complex civil disputes.
- Previous mentoring or supervisory experience.
- LLM or other postgraduate qualification (desirable but not essential).
