We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Physical and Health Education Teacher

Location: Gwarinpa, Abuja (FCT) 
Employment Type: Full-time

Role Summary

  • The PHE Teacher will design and deliver age-appropriate, dynamic physical fitness routines and health education theory for learners from Early Years to Primary classes.
  • This role involves discovering pupils' athletic potential, coaching sports, enforcing safety standards, and embedding key health and hygiene practices.

Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Delivery & Instructional Excellence:

  • Practical Instruction: Plan and execute active, engaging physical education sessions covering motor skills development, athletics, gymnastics, ball games, and fitness drills tailored to individual pupil capabilities.
  • Health Education: Deliver age-appropriate health theory lessons, covering personal hygiene, nutrition, body awareness, safety, and disease prevention.
  • DTA Philosophy: Adapt routines to accommodate diverse learning styles and physical abilities, ensuring every pupil feels included and empowered.

Event Coordination & Talent Scouting:

  • Sports Days & Inter-House Sports: Organize, coordinate, and execute annual sports meets, inter-house competitions, and routine physical showcases.
  • Talent Identification: Actively identify pupils with exceptional athletic ability and create structured pathways or recommendations to nurture those talents.
  • Coaching & Clubs: Lead after-school sports clubs, fitness groups, or team training sessions as assigned.

Safety, Supervision & Equipment Management:

  • Safety Protocols: Maintain high safety standards during all indoor and outdoor physical activities to prevent injuries.
  • First Aid: Administer basic first aid for minor field injuries when necessary and maintain strict alignment with DTA medical emergency protocols.
  • Equipment Inventory: Maintain, audit, and safely store all school physical education gear and sports equipment.

Assessment, Reporting & Professional Standards:

  • Progress Tracking: Assess and evaluate pupils’ motor skills, physical development, class participation, and theoretical understanding.
  • DTA SOP Compliance: Timely input assessment results, termly report comments, and attendance data into the DTA software according to school SOPs.
  • Parent Communication: Provide constructive feedback on pupil wellness and physical development during Parent-Teacher Conferences and Open Days.

Key Competencies & Qualifications
Required Experience & Education:

  • Degree: Bachelor’s Degree (B.Ed/B.Sc) in Physical and Health Education, Human Kinetics, Sports Science, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years teaching PHE or coaching sports in a reputable early childhood or primary school setting.
  • Professional Certification: TRCN (Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria) certification is preferred.
  • Safety Training: Current First Aid and CPR certification is a strong advantage.
