Job Title: Medical Officer II, Obstetrics & Gynaecology

Location: Abuja
Job type: Full-time (On-site)

About the Role

  • To provide clinical care in obstetrics and gynaecology under appropriate supervision, managing patients across out-patient and in-patient settings with decreasing levels of supervision, and contributing to the safe and effective running of the obstetrics and gynaecology service.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose and manage patients in obstetrics and gynaecology with decreasing levels of supervision, appropriate to the level of the role, escalating appropriately.
  • Participate in clinics, ward rounds, on-call rotas and procedures as required, contributing to audit and quality-improvement activities.
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical records and current MDCN registration/licence in line with internal clinical policy.
  • Work effectively within the multidisciplinary team, coordinating care with other services and supporting managed-care/HMO processes through evidence-based, cost-effective practice.

Requirements
Educational Qualification:

  • Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS or MBChB) from a recognised institution.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of post-NYSC clinical experience, including time at Medical Officer I grade or equivalent.

Required skills:

  • Sound clinical knowledge relevant to obstetrics and gynaecology and the ability to manage presentations appropriate to the role.
  • Sound clinical record-keeping and competent use of hospital clinical systems.
  • Effective communication with patients, families and colleagues.
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrable clinical competence relevant to obstetrics and gynaecology, managing patients with decreasing levels of supervision.
  • Post-registration clinical experience as a medical practitioner beyond entry level.
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team in a hospital setting relevant to obstetrics and gynaecology.

Nice to have:

  • Evidence of progress toward a postgraduate fellowship (e.g. primary or part examinations of the National Postgraduate Medical College or the West African College).
  • Experience in a multi-specialist hospital, corporate hospital network, HMO-facing health system, public-sector hospital or large institutional healthcare environment.
  • Postgraduate training, membership examinations or a higher degree relevant to the area of practice.
