We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Head of News

Location: Ikeja, Lagos

Responsibilities

• Set the editorial direction and news agenda of the station.
• Ensure accuracy, balance, fairness, and objectivity in all news content.
• Approve news stories, scripts, and special reports before broadcast.
• Ensure strict adherence to the NBC Code and other applicable regulations.
• Prevent broadcast of defamatory, offensive, misleading, or prohibited content.
• Supervise daily newsroom operations and assignment desk activities.
• Approve news rundowns and bulletins.
• Coordinate news coverage plans, including breaking news and special events.
• Ensure timely production and broadcast of news programs.
• Oversee field reporting, correspondents, and outside broadcasts.
• Ensure safety of reporters and camera crews in the field.
• Approve deployment of news crews and logistics support.
• Identify emerging trends and audience interests for news coverage.
• Develop investigative journalism and special reports.
• Improve news quality through innovation and technology.
• Work with Programming, Production, Technical, and Marketing departments.

Requirements
Educational Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, or related field.
• Master’s degree is an added advantage.

Professional Experience:

• 4–5 years experience in broadcast journalism.
• At least 2 years in a senior editorial or management role.

Professional Memberships (Advantage):

• Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ)
• Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON)
• Other relevant media bodies

Skills and Competencies:

• Strong editorial judgment and ethical decision-making
• In-depth knowledge of NBC Code and media laws
• Leadership and newsroom management skills
• Excellent communication and writing skills
• Crisis and risk management abilities
• Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
• Strong interpersonal and mentoring skills.
