We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Professional Truck Driver

Location: Nigeria

Key Responsibilites
Transportation and Delivery:

  • Safely operate assigned trucks for the transportation of programme materials, medical supplies, equipment, furniture, relief items, and other organizational goods.
  • Transport staff where authorized and approved by Management.
  • Ensure deliveries are completed accurately, safely, and within scheduled timelines.
  • Load and unload goods safely, ensuring proper handling to prevent damage.
  • Verify delivery items against waybills, delivery notes, and other transport documentation.
  • Obtain signatures and proof of delivery from receiving personnel where required.
  • Plan travel routes to ensure efficiency and minimize delays.

Vehicle Maintenance:

  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections before and after each trip.
  • Check engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, tyres, lights, battery, fuel level, and general vehicle condition.
  • Maintain cleanliness of both the interior and exterior of the assigned truck.
  • Promptly report mechanical faults, accidents, or defects.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance schedules are followed.
  • Monitor service due dates and notify the Logistics team accordingly.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Drive in accordance with Nigerian traffic laws and organizational road safety policies.
  • Ensure seat belt compliance for all occupants.
  • Observe speed limits and defensive driving practices.
  • Never operate the vehicle under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication that impairs driving.
  • Ensure the truck carries all required safety equipment, including:
    • Fire extinguisher
    • First aid kit
    • Reflective triangles
    • Spare tyre
    • Wheel spanner
    • Jack
  • Report all accidents or incidents immediately in line with organizational procedures.

Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate vehicle logbooks.
  • Record daily mileage, fuel purchases, maintenance activities, and trip details.
  • Submit completed logbooks and fuel records as required.
  • Keep vehicle documents valid and available, including:
    • Driver's Licence
    • Vehicle Licence
    • Insurance
    • Road Worthiness Certificate
    • Vehicle Inspection Certificate

Travel Responsibilities:

  • Undertake regular travel within Lagos State and to other states across Nigeria.
  • Be available for extended trips requiring overnight stays when necessary.
  • Ensure proper planning before long-distance journeys.
  • Coordinate with Logistics regarding travel schedules and delivery plans.
  • Observe all security guidance provided by the organization before and during travel.

Asset Protection:

  • Ensure goods are secured properly before departure.
  • Prevent theft, loss, or damage to organizational property during transportation.
  • Never leave loaded vehicles unattended unless authorized or properly secured.

Communication:

  • Maintain regular communication with the Logistics team throughout assigned trips.
  • Provide updates on travel progress, delays, breakdowns, or emergencies.
  • Escalate operational challenges promptly.

Other Duties:

  • Support warehouse loading and unloading activities when required.
  • Assist with office logistics during periods of low transport activity.
  • Carry out any other duties assigned by the Logistics Manager consistent with the role.
