We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Guidance Counsellor & Safeguarding Lead

Location: Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Full-time

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counselling services to students.
  • Support students with academic, social, emotional, behavioral, and career-related concerns.
  • Develop and implement student wellness, mental health, and personal development programs.
  • Assist students in making informed educational and career choices.
  • Work closely with teachers, parents, and administrators to support student success.
  • Maintain confidential student records and counselling documentation.
  • Organize workshops and awareness programs on topics such as emotional well-being, resilience, study skills, and responsible decision-making.

Safeguarding and Child Protection:

  • Serve as the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
  • Lead the implementation and monitoring of the school’s safeguarding and child protection policies.
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding regulations and best practices.
  • Receive, document, and manage safeguarding concerns and referrals appropriately.
  • Coordinate investigations and interventions in collaboration with relevant authorities where necessary.
  • Deliver safeguarding training and awareness programs for staff, students, and parents.
  • Maintain accurate safeguarding records and ensure confidentiality.
  • Promote a culture of safety, respect, and student well-being throughout the school community.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Guidance and Counselling, Psychology, Education, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree in Counselling, Educational Psychology, Child Development, or a related discipline is an advantage.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in counselling, student welfare, safeguarding, or child protection.
  • Strong understanding of child development, mental health, and safeguarding practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to work with students, parents, staff, and external agencies effectively.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, empathy, and confidentiality.
  • Certification or training in Child Protection, Safeguarding, Mental Health, or related areas is an added advantage.
