Job Title: Geologist / Geophysicist
Location: Lagos
Main Functions
- The Geologist / Geophysicist is responsible for conducting geological and geophysical investigations to support exploration, engineering, construction, and infrastructure projects.
- The role involves acquiring, processing, interpreting, and integrating geological and geophysical data to evaluate subsurface conditions, identify geological structures, assess project feasibility, and provide technical recommendations that support safe, efficient, and cost-effective project execution.
Tasks and Responsibilties
- Plan, coordinate, and execute geological and geophysical field investigations and surveys.
- Acquire, process, analyse, and interpret geological, geophysical, geochemical, and hydrogeological data.
- Conduct and interpret geophysical surveys, including seismic, gravity, magnetic, electrical resistivity, electromagnetic, and ground penetrating radar (GPR) investigations where applicable.
- Prepare and interpret geological maps, cross-sections, structural models, and subsurface profiles.
- Evaluate subsurface formations, faults, fractures, groundwater conditions, and geological hazards.
- Conduct site investigations and assess soil, rock, and groundwater conditions to support engineering and construction projects.
- Integrate geological and geophysical data to provide accurate subsurface models and technical recommendations.
- Support exploration, mineral evaluation, groundwater studies, environmental assessments, and infrastructure development projects.
- Prepare technical reports, geological and geophysical interpretations, and feasibility studies.
- Coordinate drilling, borehole logging, sampling, and laboratory testing activities.
- Ensure quality control of geological and geophysical data and maintain accurate project documentation.
- Liaise with engineers, surveyors, environmental specialists, and project teams to support multidisciplinary project delivery.
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, regulatory requirements, and HSSEQ policies during field and office activities.
- Monitor emerging technologies and industry best practices to improve geological and geophysical investigations.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Geophysics, Earth Sciences, Applied Geology, or a related discipline.
- A postgraduate qualification in Geology or Geophysics is an added advantage.
- Professional membership with relevant bodies such as the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS), Council of Nigerian Mining Engineers and Geoscientists (COMEG), or other recognized professional institutions is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 3–7 years of relevant professional experience in geological and geophysical investigations.
- Strong knowledge of geology, structural geology, geophysics, hydrogeology, and geotechnical investigations.
- Proficiency in geological and geophysical data acquisition, processing, interpretation, and modelling.
- Experience with seismic, gravity, magnetic, electrical resistivity, electromagnetic, and GPR survey techniques.
- Proficiency in industry software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, AutoCAD, Oasis Montaj, Petrel, Leapfrog, Surfer, or equivalent applications.
- Ability to interpret borehole logs, seismic sections, geophysical datasets, geological maps, and laboratory results.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical reporting skills.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and stakeholder management abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
