Job Title: Editorial Lead

The Role

  • We are seeking a Editorial Lead to own our digital editorial strategy, create compelling content, and drive audience growth. You will help execute our ambition to become the number one company of choice on the continent for professionals who want to put themselves and Africa on the map for good. We put people before profit, and we want you to help us institutionalise that ethos.

What you will do

  • Develop and implement our digital editorial strategy, setting the tone, style and direction of everything we publish.
  • Oversee the planning, creation and curation of high quality content across articles, videos, podcasts and interactive formats.
  • Lead, mentor and manage a distributed editorial team, owning workflows, deadlines and resource allocation.
  • Grow and engage our audience across web, social and email, using analytics and user behaviour to make data-led decisions.
  • Build and manage offline engagement platforms, including BHM-owned events and activations.
  • Establish partnerships with digital platforms, influencers, creatives and industry stakeholders, and represent BHM at industry events.

What You Will Bring

  • Tertiary education in Journalism, Communications, Digital Media or a related field. A postgraduate degree is an advantage.
  • Five or more years in digital journalism or content creation, including at least three years in a senior editorial or management role.
  • Experience in entertainment and lifestyle media is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills, with a strong instinct for digital storytelling.
  • Working knowledge of CMS platforms, SEO and digital analytics tools.
  • A proven track record of leading a distributed editorial team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commercial awareness of digital monetisation, advertising trends and revenue generation.
