Job Title: Live-In Governess

Location: Abuja (FCT)

Job Summary

  • We are seeking a warm, nurturing, andintentional Governess to provide dedicated care and developmental guidance for a 3-year-old child.
  • The ideal candidate will have practical experience with, or a strong understanding of, Montessori principles and early childhood development.
  • This role is suited to someone who genuinely loves working with children, values purposeful childcare, and is committed to fostering independence, curiosity, confidence, and emotional well-being.
  • The successful candidate will play an active role in creating a stimulating, screen-free environment that supports the child's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development through meaningful engagement, play, and exploration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide attentive, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate care for a 3-year-old child.
  • Apply Montessori-inspired principles and practices to encourage independence, self-confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning.
  • Plan and implement engaging, age-appropriate, screen-free activities that promote creativity, critical thinking, language development, practical life skills, and sensory exploration.
  • Foster positive social, emotional, and behavioral development through respectful guidance and modelling.
  • Encourage learning through play and recognize the vital role play has in early childhood development.
  • Observe developmental milestones and provide regular feedback to parents regarding the child's progress, interests, and emerging needs.
  • Develop, maintain, and effectively manage structured daily schedules and routines that balance learning, play, rest, meals, and outdoor activities.
  • Anticipate challenges and proactively implement strategies to support smooth transitions and positive behavior.
  • Prepare nutritious, age-appropriate meals and snacks for the child while encouraging healthy eating habits.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and stimulating environment for the child.
  • Ensure the child's belongings, play areas, learning materials, and personal spaces remain orderly and well cared for.
  • Work collaboratively and respectfully with parents, household staff, and other caregivers to ensure consistency in routines, expectations, and developmental goals.
  • Communicate effectively regarding the child's schedule, activities, achievements, and any concerns requiring attention.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and teamwork while maintaining professionalism and discretion within the household.

Requirements
The ideal candidate will:

  • Have practical experience with Montessori principles or a strong working knowledge of Montessori philosophy.
  • Possess previous experience caring for and guiding young children, preferably within a private household, educational, or early childhood setting.
  • Have a genuine passion for child development and intentional parenting practices.
  • Be naturally playful, engaging, and enthusiastic about spending quality time with children.
  • Demonstrate initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently.
  • Be proactive in identifying potential challenges and implementing effective solutions.
  • Exhibit patience, kindness, empathy, and emotional intelligence.
  • Serve as a positive role model through respectful communication, integrity, and strong personal values.
  • Maintain high standards of organization, cleanliness, and attention to detail.
  • Be physically active and willing to participate in indoor and outdoor play activities.
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Training or certification in Montessori education, Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field.
  • Bachelors degree or HND in Education, Child Development or a related field.
  • First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain certification).

Salary
N120,000 - N150,000 per month.
