Job Title: Industrial Relations Manager

Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers

Job Summary

  • To design, lead, and execute Marconi's industrial relations (IR) strategy, dispute mitigation protocols, and workforce risk management frameworks.
  • This role is responsible for maintaining absolute industrial harmony, ensuring seamless trade union relations, preventing work stoppages, and safeguarding Marconi's operations from community and contractor-related labour risks.
  • The position ensures that all disciplinary actions, collective bargaining negotiations, and operational field practices strictly comply with Nigerian labour laws, preventing legal liabilities while fostering a high-performance, stable work environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations, Law, Business Administration, Public Administration, Psychology, Social Sciences, or a related discipline
  • Professional certification such as CIPM, SHRM, HRCI, CIPD, or equivalent.
  • 8-10 years' experience in Industrial Relations, Labor Relations, or HR operations, with at least 5 years in a Lead or Managerial capacity within a heavy engineering, construction, EPC, or Oil & Gas environment.
  • Proven track record of leading successfully negotiated Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) with national unions (e.g., CCESSA, NUCECFWW).
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating complex labour dispute resolutions, disciplinary tribunals, and workforce audits in high-pressure work locations.
  • Union Negotiation & Bargaining: Masterful ability to lead collective bargaining, draft agreements, and preserve management-union relations.
  • Labour Laws & Jurisprudence: Deep expertise in the Nigerian Labour Act, Trade Unions Act, and current National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) legal precedents.
  • Crisis & Strike Mitigation: Proactive risk monitoring, grievance management, and immediate stabilization planning.
  • Workforce Investigations: Skilled in structured, compliant, and confidential workplace investigation techniques and report drafting. Stakeholder Alignment: High-level coordination capacity with Operations (Project Managers), Security teams, and Legal counsel. Crisis De-escalation & Conflict Resolution: High emotional intelligence to de-escalate aggressive confrontations and build mutual trust. Executive Presence & Diplomacy: Strong, calm, and objective communication style when presenting risk profiles to C-Suite/EVC. Preventative Risk Management: Ability to spot industrial relations vulnerabilities before they escalate into work stoppages.
  • Ethical Conduct & Confidentiality: Absolute integrity and security of sensitive employee relations data, investigations, and legal briefs. Strategic Prioritization: Quick, decisive task management during concurrent labour escalations.
