Role Summary

• The Scheduler (TV Programming) builds and manages HipTV's 24-hour broadcast schedule across DSTV and GoTV — deciding what airs when, keeping the channel filled with fresh and repeat programming, and making sure every show, news bulletin, and live special reaches air on time.
• This role is the operational backbone of HipTV's TV channel, working closely with the Head of News Department, Editors, and the control room/playout team to keep the on-air schedule accurate, compliant, and optimised for audience reach.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain HipTV's 24-hour programming grid across DSTV (Channel 324) and GoTV (Channel 74).
• Slot new episodes, reruns, news bulletins, and special/live broadcasts (events, red-carpet coverage, The Headies) into the schedule, balancing fresh content with efficient use of off-peak hours.
• Coordinate with the Head of News Department, Editors, and production teams to confirm content is finished, approved, and delivered in time for its scheduled slot.
• Submit and maintain HipTV's Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) listings and any schedule submissions required by DSTV/GoTV (MultiChoice).
• Ensure the programming schedule complies with National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) regulations, including content classification and watershed/timing requirements.
• Manage last-minute schedule changes — breaking news interruptions, technical issues, or delayed content — with minimal disruption to the broadcast day.
• Liaise with the control room/playout team to confirm the correct content and running order are loaded and ready ahead of air time.
• Track show performance data (viewership/ratings where available) and use it to inform scheduling decisions, including prime-slot placement for top-performing shows.
• Schedule on-air promos and cross-promotion for upcoming shows, events, and specials within the programming grid.
• Maintain a rolling schedule (daily, weekly, and monthly view) and communicate it clearly to all relevant teams in advance.
• Coordinate with the Facility Manager on any equipment or technical issues affecting HipTV's ability to broadcast as scheduled.
