Key Functions, Accountabilities and Related Duties/Tasks
Summary of key functions/accountabilities:
  • Support to programme development, planning and execution.
  • Development, Maintenance and Upgrading of Image Data Bank
  • Branding of IEC materials
Support to programme development, planning and execution:
  • Researches, analyzes, verifies, synthesizes and compiles design and graphics concepts from a variety of sources on subject matters relevant to the work of Programme sections for the production of Communication material
  • Drafts designs, graphics and technical specifications for project documents, publications, reports and presentations.
  • Participates in field testing of communication materials
  • Prepare IEC materials to camera-ready status, liaise with selected printers for adherence to required specifications; review dummy and draft printed matter of: Training Manuals, Brochures, posters, Flyers and FAQ, Handbills, Charts, Billboards, Handbooks and Folders as requested by Programme Sections and the Office.
  • Visits printing houses to inspect, review and recommend on the use of various photographic and visual materials, the qualitative aspect of production for quality control.
Development, Maintenance and Upgrading of Image Data Bank:
  • Scans, collates and uploads both analog and digital images into data bank regularly for NCO and field offices. Designs photo guidelines with sections
  • Catalogues and organises images appropriately to promote programme thrusts.
  • Advises on the need and use of various photographic materials for Health, WASH, Nutrition, Education, C4D, Child Protection, HIV/AIDS, Polio sections and Media External Relations.
Branding of IEC materials:
  • Ensures strict adherence to UNICEF publication style in material production, campaigns and exhibitions for visual consistency
  • Facilitates branding and production of Pop-Up Displays, Banners, T shirts, Folders, CD label and Reports for Education, WASH; Child Protection, Health, Nutrition, Polio, HIV and AIDS, Communication for Development, Advocacy and External Relations Programmes, as well as by PM&E, Supply and Human Resources to project the UNICEF image and reputation.
  • Assists supervisor as required to facilitate hiring and supervision of temporary artists, cartoonists and illustrators for temporary support services when needed

  • The efficiency and effectiveness of the support provided by the Graphic Artist to the development, implementation and monitoring of programs/projects facilitates the delivery of concrete and sustainable results for the respective section, which in turn enhances the offices and UNICEF's capacity in helping the most vulnerable women and children.

Recruitment Qualifications
  • Education: Higher National Diploma (HND) or first degree in Graphic Arts and Design or related technical qualifications.
  • Experience: At least 5 years progressive professional work experience in graphic Arts and Design
Technical Competent/skills:
  • Ability to express clearly and concisely ideas and concepts in written and oral forms
  • Demonstrable creativity and experience in translating messages into Graphics
  • Advanced Computer skills in various office applications (including PageMaker Corel Draw, Photoshop, Paint Shop,) and internet navigation skills.
Language Requirements:
  • Fluency in English. Knowledge of another UN language and basic knowledge of Nigerian local languages, an asset.
