News: Buhari Sacks, Replaces JAMB, NECO Bosses

President Muhammadu Buhari has carried out mass sack of heads of agencies and parastatals under the Federal Ministry of Education and appointed new ones with immediate effect.

Affected majorly is the the Registrar and Chief Executive of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor ‘Dibu Ojerinde, who has been replaced by the former Vice Chancellor of University of ilorin, Professor Ishaq Oloyode.

Ojerinde, who appointment was renewed by former President Goodluck Jonathan on April 10th, 2012 would have completed his 10 years in service at JAMB by April next year.

The president also sacked the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr Suleiman Dikko and appointed Dr Hameed Bobboyi as his replacement.

A statement by the Deputy Director, Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, Mr Benjamin Bem Goong, on Monday, said President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the appointment of 17 new chief executives of parastatals and agencies under the Federal Ministry of Education with effect from Monday, August 1st, 2016.

The statement also indicated that Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed had been appointed as the new Executive Secretary of National Universities Commission (NUC).

Other agencies and parastatals together with their approved new chief executives are: Nigerian Institute For Educational Planning and Administration (NIE - PA), Professor (Mrs) Lilian Salami; National Library of Nigeria (NLN), Professor Lanre O. Aina; and National Examinations Council (NECO), Professor Charles Uwakwe.

Others are: National Commission For Mass Literacy, Adult And Non-Formal Education (NCMLA&NE), headed by Professor Abba Haladu; Nomadic Education Commission (NEC), Professor Bashir H. Usman; and National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB), Professor Ifeoma Isiugo-Abanihe.

Also appointed are: Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Professor Sunday Josiah Ajiboye; Computer Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN), Afolabi N. Aderinto; National Commission For Colleges of Education (NCCE), Professor Bappah Aliyu; and Tertiary Education Tax Fund (TETFund), headed by Dr Abdullahi Bichi Baffa. The new head of National Teachers Institute (NTI) is Professor Garba Dahuwa Azare; Librarian Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN), Professor Michael Afolabi, National Mathematical Centre, Sheda (NMC) Professor Steven Ejugwu Onah; and National Institute of Nigerian Languages NINLAN, Professor Chinyere Ohiri Aniche.

Similarly, President Buhari has also approved that the following four chief executives to be retained in their respective agencies, Professor Samaila Junaidu, Nigeria Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC); Professor Raauf Adebisi, Nigerian French Language Village Badagry (NFLV); Dr Mas'ud A. Kazaure, National Board For Technical Education (NBTE) and Professor Muhammad Mu’az, National Arabic Language Village, Maiduguri, Borno State (NALV).

According to the statement, the 17 new chief executives, were invited to the office of the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, today.
