IITA is an international non-profit research-for-development (R4D) organization created in 1967, governed by a Board of Trustees, and supported primarily by the Consultative Group of International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture seeks suitable candidate for the position of Forest Project Supervisor at the Institute’s Headquarters in Ibadan.
Job Title: Forest Project Supervisor
Duration: 1-year renewable contract
Job Duties
Successful candidate will:
- Liaise with Project Manager to implement and give feedback on all project tasks & activities
- Supervise Forest Attendant, Nursery Attendant and driver
- Liaise with Research Farm Unit (RFU) and Facilities Management Services (FMS) for use of equipment and operators, repairs & maintenance etc., directly or via Work Order
- Follow up with RFU and FMS on outstanding Work Orders
- Purchase equipment as directed
- Assist with educational events and research programs
- Guide visitors on tours to forest and supervise freelance tour guides
- Contribute text and illustrations promptly to project reports, presentations, and website.
- Ensure species checklists and price lists are updated as required
- Take experimental data and record observations in research areas as instructed.
- Support students in conducting their research within the framework of the Forest Project
- Liaise with Project Manager on progress and problems of students
- Keep records for Nursery, Forest, and vehicle
- Monitor & report on staff attendance and performance
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor
Qualification and Experience
- BSc/HND in Plant Science, Forestry, Environmental Science or related field plus at least 3 years experience in Forest or Nursery management in a research Institution will be an added advantage.
The ideal candidate must possess:
- Good Supervisory ability
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel
- Valid driving license
- Practical skills relevant to nursery and forestry equipment and machinery
