Obafemi Awolowo University (Center for Distance Learning) Admission into the Diploma and Certificate Programme 2014/2015 Session

Obafemi Awolowo University - Applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the following Diploma and Certificate programmes of the Center for Distance Learning, Obafemi Awolowo university, Ile-Ife Nigeria.

Diploma Programmes

1.) Department: Fine and Applied Arts

A.) Diploma in Fine Arts

Admission Requirements

• Candidates must have passes in any five (5) subjects at credit level including English Language at the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE)/General Certificate of Education (GCE), NECO or its equivalent.
• Candidates will be required to pass a practical examination before the final admission.

Duration:

• The programme shall last for two (2) academic sessions.

2.) Department: Physical and Health Education

B.) Diploma in Physical and Health Education

Admission Requirements

• Candidates must have passes in any five (5) subjects at credit level including English Language at the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE)/)/General Certificate of Education (GCE), NECO or its equivalent.
• Candidates will be required to pass a practical examination before the final admission.

Duration:

• The programme shall last for two (2) academic sessions.

3.) Department: Music

C.) Diploma in Music

Admission Requirements

• Candidates must have passes in any five (5) subjects at credit level including English Language at the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE)/)/General Certificate of Education (GCE), NECO or its equivalent.
• There will be an audition before the final admission.

Duration:

• The programme shall last for two (2) academic sessions.

4.) Department: Linguistics and African Languages

D.) Diploma in Yoruba Studies

Admission Requirements

• Candidates must have passes in any five (5) subjects at credit level including English Language and Yoruba Language at the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE)/)/General Certificate of Education (GCE), NECO.
• However, there will be written and oral examination before the final admission.

Duration:

• The programme shall last for two (2) academic sessions.

5.) Department: Dramatic Arts

E.) Diploma in Dramatic Arts

Admission Requirements

• Candidates must have passes in any five (5) subjects at credit level including English Language, Literature in English and one other arts subject at the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE)/)/General Certificate of Education (GCE), NECO.
• There will be an audition before the final selection.

Duration:

• The programme shall last for two (2) academic sessions.

National History Museum

F.) Diploma in Conservation Science and Tourism

Admission Requirements

• Candidates must have passes in five (5) subjects at credit level in WAEC/NECO/GCE which must include English Language and Biology, in addition to any of the following: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Agricultural Science, Economics and Geography.
• In special cases of museum professionals, three (3) credit passes in WAEC/NECO/GCE will be accepted.

Duration:

• The programme shall last for two (2) academic sessions.

Professional Diploma

6.) Department: Preventive and Community Dentistry

G.) Diploma in Oral Health Care

Admission Requirement

• Candidates must be health professionals of any discipline with experience/training In Primary Health Care and must have at least 3 credits including English and Biology.

Duration:

• The programme shall last for one (1) academic session.

Certificate Programmes

Center for Gender and Social Policy Studies

H.) Non-degree Certificate Course in Gender and Development Studies

Admission Requirements

• Candidates for admission into the non-degree programme should have at least OND or NCE certificate However, school certificate holders who have acquired enough experience working on development issues (minimum of two years) will also be considered for the programme.

Duration: The course shall run for 8 weeks

Institute of Public Health

I.) Advanced Certificate Course in Monitoring and Evaluation of Public Health Programmes

Admission Requirements

• Candidates with at least a basic professional qualification in any health-related disciple.
• Graduates in relevant core and social sciences, including statistics and demography will also be eligible.

Department: Foreign Languages

J.) Certificate Course in Portuguese Language
(The only valid certificate obtainable at the end of this programme is the CELPE-BRAS Certificate awarded by the Brazilian Ministry of Education to all successful candidates).

Admission Requirements

• Admission into this programme is open to any candidate with at least five 0' level credits in SSCE, NECO or GCE.
• It is not compulsory that candidates have any previous knowledge of Portuguese language.

Duration:

• The programme shall last for six(6) months

K.) Certificate in French Language

Admission Requirements

• Admission into this programme is open to any interested candidate with at least Three 0' level credits in SSCE, NECO or GCE.
• It is not compulsory that candidates have any previous knowledge of French language.

Duration:
The programme is in Four different categories:

• First Level Basic I certificate - 2 months
• First Level Basic II certificate - 2 months
• Second Level I certificate - 2 months
• Second Level 2 certificate - 2 months
