PTDF Scholarship Scheme 2013/2014 for MSc and PhD and Undergraduate Programmes

Posted on Thu 07th Mar, 2013 - hotnigerianjobs.com --- (30 comments)

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) is a parastatal of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources established by Decree 25 of 1973 for the purpose of developing and promoting petroleum technology and for creating the manpower needs of the oil and gas industry through research and training of Nigerians.

Our mission therefore is to train Nigerians to qualify as graduates, professionals, technicians and craftsmen in the field of engineering, geology, science and management in the oil and gas industry in Nigeria or abroad. We have a vision to serve not only as a vessel for the development of indigenous manpower and technology transfer/acquisition in the petroleum industry but also to make Nigeria a human resource centre for the West African sub-region.

PTDF Undergratduate / Postgraduate( MSc and PhD ) Scholarship Programme 2013 / 2014

To ensure a steadfast implementation of this mandate, PTDF is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for Overseas MSc and PhD Scholarships. Scholarships will be awarded for studies in the 2013/2014 academic session in the United Kingdom and France (Grenoble INP) and upgraded Universities in Nigeria for the 2013/2014 session. However, the Undergraduate level will be awarded for studies in Nigeria only on subject areas listed below. Copied from: www.hotnigerianjobs.com

Application Forms can be accessed online using an ATM card or through purchase of a scratch card from designated main branches of First Bank of Nigeria Plc  in all the States and FCT, upon payment of a NON-REFUNDABLE sum of N1,000 (One Thousand Naira Only). Applicants may please note that only those who meet the requirements below shall be shortlisted and invited for Electronic Aptitude Test, in the case of Master’s, while oral interview will be conducted for PhD (full time) on dates to be announced later. Following the aptitude tests and interview, the best qualified candidates will be selected and awarded the PTDF Scholarship.

PTDF however wishes to inform applicants that the Overseas Scholarship Scheme was instituted as a short term measure to address identified skills gaps, pending the outcome of the various capacity building efforts being made to enable our domestic universities effectively handle the onerous task of grooming qualitative professionals in the oil and gas related disciplines. Hey Nigeria!!! upon the extreme poverty raging the entire nation,it's a shame that PTDF is still demanding for a sum of #1000 for their so-called scholarship application form. This is too unfair

That is why many people in Nigeria are unemployed. It is called Petroleum Trust Development Fund. Companies like Shell, Chevron, Mobil etc, donate into the fund to train Nigerians and improve local content in the Oil sector. So how is this related to Agriculture.

Anyway my question goes like this. For the overseas scholarship, MSc to be precise, they say we should apply to the school we want to gain admission into together with applying for PTDF yet no info has been given as to when the fund would be made available if PTDF selects one for the scholarship or when the scholarship selection process will take place. This info is very vital so that we can fill a correct application for the overseas school.

Fellow Nigerians, our country is doomed. U & I needs to slim to our bones to leave not stone un turned. Firstly, examination is not d true test of knowledge, even employers in Nigeria will be clamoring for 2.1 candidates, hum! It is quiet pessimistic. Schools are not running same academic standard, go to OAU, geology dept in OAU is too tough, for d past 10 years, I'm not sure if dey produced a first class graduate, even 2.2 is hell. Does dat mean third class graduate in such dept is not academically sound. And we av dept like dat in all schools. Do u want to compare someone dat read fishery with maybe Civil,Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. Even engineering or other technology courses in Federal institutions is incomparable with private institutions.
Secondly, I must commend d effort of d federal govt for deir contributions towards Nigerians career prospects. But what happens to our own higher institutions of learning, I am downcast for dis country educational system, why? Well, Technological wise, I accepted inferiority complex for European schools, but even African countries are included sometime, gosh! What insolence to Nigeria institutions. Dis country is doomed.
Thirdly, Nigeria govt should stop encouraging unfaithfulness. Why is everything in dis country has to do with age limit, why wouldn't people forge WAEC certificate, even employers in Nigeria will ask for not more dan 28 years old, with 6 to 10 years working experience in relevant/related field, dis is bullshit. Also, if u are a true Nigerian & u sat for ur O'level by urself, hum is it easy to av five As or Bs in one sit, how many secondary school graduates can beat deir chest to dat without impassination, why wouldn't people impassinate.
Lastly, what happens to our technical education, Monotechnics & Polytechnics in Nigeria, d norms of technical education is totally lost in nigeria. Engineering & Technological wise, I can beat my chest for Federal Poly & Mono in Nigeria, dey are more dan sound, why are dis people deprived scholarship right, are dey not Nigerians, dey are equally serving d nation even at NYSC level. An HND holder must spend good 5 years in school regardless of his/her course, in world standard view, we all know dat University is superior to Poly & Mono, but not d way d program is been run in Nigeria, ND&HND is just 2 years in UK, while Degree (Beng, Bsc & BA) is 3 years. If Federal govt thinks dey are irrelevant in d country, dey should scraped dem.
God bless Nigeria.

This scholarship programme is a way of wasting our funds by the federal government through the PTDF because we have Universities that needs urgent attention but this government is looking for shortcut by sending people abroad where they will not be allowed to develop themselves. After the masters programme they will not get the experience that the so called Oil and Gas Company are looking for! So why send them abroad? Is this how this country is going to grow? By continuously wasting all she has got? The government is compounding the problem because after the one year masters programme these graduates are returning back home. I mean to level zero and they will not be happy. So at the end the government has worsen our problem. Imagine someone coming from the Uk where you have electricity and internet running for 24 hours to this country where we are still dreaming of having it. The person will not be happy

Its really a big shame on NIGERIA, Shame to all Nigerian JOB PROVIDERS, SHAME ON HER MINISTRIES AND SHAME ON HER GOVERNMENT

Am not so sorry for saying or typing this if after 52 years our job seeking stories havent changed and the government and private sector claim they are providing jobs and the other that they have provided jobs, na lie una lie "iro le pa, opuro ni yin"

A fresh graduate seeking for job, successfully finds a job that suits his field, on getting there, he is asked if he has up to 5 YRS experience, 2 years experience, 10 years , even 12 years experience. where is he going to have that, and without this, there is no employment for him,

Government, all concerned bodies, please look into this issue, let graduates get job immediately they graduate o. let rules, bills be passed concerning this issues, let it be a debate in the house please. Honourables, speakers in assembly and representatives, we believe in you to help our souls.
