DFID Nigeria is responsible for managing the British Government’s contribution to development in Nigeria, with the objective of supporting governments at federal and state level to reduce poverty In order to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
In Nigeria DFID’s focus is on supporting improvements in governance, particularly public financial management and the delivery of basic services, and on strengthening the environment for non-oil growth which generates employment. We work to achieve this through various programmes at federal and state level and with civil society.
DFID Nigeria was set up as a developed country office in 2001. It has a very committed staff and is a fun place to work. Our staff are split across 4 offices: the main office in Abuja and regional offices in Kano (covering Northern Nigeria); Enugu (covering the South East) and Lagos (covering the South West).
The following positions are available in the Abuja and Enugu offices for immediate employment:
Job Title: Assistant Programme Officer
Available Vacancies: 2 positions
Location: Abuja, Enugu
Conditions: Abuja (permanent) and Enugu (2 year Fixed Term with the possibility of renewal)
Responsibilities
- Project Support: Support the team in all processes relating programme identification and design to tendering, negotiating and awarding contracts to Service Providers and consultants; Assist with the planning of and, where appropriate, active participation in annual programme reviews; and lastly, ensure effective sharing of information within team.
- Procedural and Financial Management: Managing programme budgets on ARIES (DFID’s Accounting system) and ensuring that data is accurate; Checking invoices and claims, requesting appropriate authorizations and processing requests for payment (including scanning of invoices); managing information loaded onto the Electronic Data Recording and Management System (EDRM).
- Administrative Support/Corporate Requirements: Arranging meetings, workshops and other teams presentations, including attendance at programme related meetings and taking notes at the meetings; Other administrative duties that may be assigned.

Requirements
- A University first degree for these positions is required and would preferably be in the Social Sciences.
- Candidates must be able to demonstrate suitable experience and proven ability in programme management and financial management.
Remuneration/Terms and Conditions
The starting salary for the Assistant Programme Officer will be N3,814,920 per annum. DFID Nigeria salaries are subject to local tax deductions.
