Job Title: Docking Superintendent
Location: Lagos, Nigeria
Responsibilities
The Docking Superintendent may direct any member in his division
The Docking Superintendent reports to the Technical Team Leader Onne and/or Manager Marine Assets, WAVentures.
The Docking Superintendent has a cooperative relationship with the HSE Manager, Operations Manager and all technical crew on board of the vessels.
Provide on time, safe, reliable, and cost effective drydocking operations for the Lagos operated vessels and barges;
Create an environment of continuous improvement;
Identify, manage and monitor risks;
Advise on the technical operations of all vessels owned or operated by WAVentures;
Liaise closely with the vessels’ Technical Superintendent, vessels’ masters and chief engineers to ensure the vessels hull, tanks, machinery and equipment are maintained/overhauled/docked efficient to companies standard;
Ensure that all personnel under his control are suitably qualified;
Takes lead in planning of a dry-docking and other significant material or services contracts;
Ensure the compliance of the vessels to the ISM Code within his area of responsibility and docking maintenance of the vessels is correctly applied;
To provide specialist advice and recommendations on all important technical issues affecting the vessels safety and operations;
To identify opportunities to improve technical issues to increase customer service and company value;
To work in close relation with the procurement department and approve docking purchase orders and advises the Technical Superintendent on spare parts, consumbles and equipmnent for the WAVentures vessels.
HSEQ Roles and Responsibilities
Lead by example in demonstrating the correct behavior in implementing all HSE programmers;
Recognize the ‘ownership' of health, safety and environmental control within their sphere of activity and lead by example.
Require reporting Supervisors to demonstrate effective control over health, safety and environmental responsibilities;
Meet or exceed company and regulatory requirements and strive for continuous improvement.
Ensure implementation of strategies through Performance and Results program;
Ensure that a chain of command exists whereby responsibility and authority for safety matters are clearly determined, documented and understood;
Make arrangements for the necessary training, including induction training, of all personnel under their control in the safe working procedures relevant to their activities.
Ensure that all staff under their control are adequately qualified and experienced for the jobs they undertake;
Include health and safety objectives in job appraisal systems within their area of responsibility;
Ensure arrangements are in place for the co-ordination and control of Sub-Contractor activities;
Provide working conditions, which are justified as maintaining acceptable levels of safety and a healthy environment for all operations.
Ensure all relevant workplace safety inspections etc take place;
Ensure that the relevant risk assessments are undertaken and reviewed.
Ensure and maintain all safeguards and controls as required by the Safe System of Work / Risk Assessment;
Ensure that there is adequate provision and necessary allocation of time for Health, Safety and Environmental management;
Communicate HSE Policy and Processes to supervisors and staff.
Maintain effective consultation in respect of Health, Safety and Environmental management. Include Health, Safety and Environment as an agenda item in all meetings. Attend HSE meetings;
Take action in accordance with the Company disciplinary procedures for those who are negligent in failing to follow established safety and environmental procedures or misuse equipment provided for their health and safety.
Key Performance Indicators
The ability to effectively manage Vessel and barges dry dockings;
Able to communicate effectively and articulately at all levels;
Demonstrate excellent management of technical docking issues.
Assures vessel availability for all operations after a docking period;
Understanding, and compliance with all applicable international Rules, Regulations, Legislation, Codes, Guidelines, Standards and Specifications;
Total commitment to, and leadership of, the WAVentures SMS;
Effective motivation of all staff (at sea and ashore) to execute their activities in a professional manner in accordance with the WAVentures SMS.
Requirements
Knowledge of the technical lay out of the WAVentures fleet
Knowledge of all aspects of vessel and barges drydocking. Mechanical, electrical and constructive
Pleasant disposition with the capability to be authoritative when necessary
Clear and effective oral and written communication skills in English language
Thorough knowledge and understanding of principle discipline and peripheral subjects
Strong co-ordination, organisation and liaison skills with the ability to seek and gain consensus solutions to complex issues.
Qualified Chief Engineer or dual licenced Officer with reasonable seagoing experience
Highly experienced as (docking) Superintendent for a shipping company
Has knowledge and experience in inspecting steel constructions and steel repairs
Has preferrable worked in a ship repair yard as a “project” Manager or similar position to understand yard repair practises;
Experience with AHTS vessels and barges
