We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Consultant - KM Writeshop Primary Investigator (PI)

Background
  • CDGP is a five-year pilot programme supported by UKAid. It is aimed at tackling poverty and hunger and reduce malnutrition in children in Jigawa and Zamfara states in Northern Nigeria. Save the Children is leading the INGO consortium delivering the programme, in partnership with Action Against Hunger (ACF). The CDGP will run to July 31st 2019.
  • The CDGP provides a Cash Transfer grant of 4,000 NGN per month for up to 93,000 pregnant women and women with children under the age of 2 in Jigawa and Zamfara states. The cash transfer is accompanied by nutritional education, advice and counselling. The predictable monthly cash transfer is expected to contribute to increased food security, improve intake of more nutritious food, leading to improvement in child nutrition within 90,000 households.
  • More broadly, the programme aimed to generate evidence of a scalable programme that shows how a well-designed cash transfer programme, targeted at the critical First 1,000 Days of a child’s life, can bring cost-effective immediate and long-term food security and nutrition benefits to eligible households with young children.
  • The broad outcome of CDGP is a scalable programme showing how cash transfers can bring cost-effective immediate and long-term food security and nutrition benefits to eligible households with young children in poor communities in northern Nigeria.
Scope of Work:
  • CDGP will host a 4-day workshop in Abuja to capture the learning and best practices from the programme since inception in April 2013.
  • The Primary Investigator (PI) will be engaged to support the lead facilitator in facilitating the writeshop process, coordinating the team of research assistants, developing a high-quality report outlining activities undertaken and achievements, developing the case studies and appropriate knowledge products from the writeshop to be presented to CDGP.
  • The PI take note on the main findings, conclusions and recommendations of all sessions.
  • The PI will also prepare a detailed final summary report to be presented to CDGP/Save the Children
  • The PI will support the Lead Facilitator (LF) in the overall compilation of the workshop reports and the knowledge management products as well as the overall coordination of a team of 10 Research Assistants(RAs) for the writeshop
  • The PI will recruit and pay the 10 RAs directly
  • The RAs however will be expected to be present throughout the workshop sessions, collect brief from the LF on note-taking for the main findings, conclusions and recommendations of the presentation and questions surfaced during the workshop sessions and the small theme-specific breakout sessions. The research assistants will support the LF to prepare a detailed final summary report to be presented to CDGP. 
The PI will be engaged for 10 days:
  • Training of Research assistants - 2 days
  • Learning Workshop Coordination - 4 days
  • Report writing - 4
Deliverables:
  • Pre-Workshop: to hold a pre-workshop session with the Lead Facilitator for planning and debriefing on the expectation from the workshop; become familiar with outline of the programme, read programme documents and attend the planning meeting as required
  • Collate the summary reports for the groups, Session reports, Theme Briefs, Case studies, State Collaborative Outcome reports, Compendium of Most significant change, main findings, conclusions and recommendations of the Session
  • Collaborate with the Knowledge Management Specialist and Knowledge Management Adviser on writing a position paper on Nutrition plus using CDGP as a case study, develop abstract and technical papers for publications in peer review journals
  • Attend Debrief session post workshop and include findings in summary report
  • Work with the Lead Facilitator, Knowledge Management Specialist and Knowledge Management Adviser to come up with the final products of the process
Tasks
  • Primary Investigator: Support Lead facilitator for facility the workshop, recruitment and payment of research assistants
  • Research Assistants: Support Lead Facilitator under the leadership of the Principal Investigator for capturing of the CDGP Learning Writeshop sessions for a period of six (6) days (2 days for training, 4 days for workshop)
Note
  • The PI and research assistants are expected bring their laptops as this will be required for quick turning around of your report for consolidation. Ensure that your laptop is fully charged and your charger is in good working conditions
  • It is essential that you have a recording device to better capture the discussions of your assigned group. If possible endeavour to get one
  • Ensure that your mobile phones are on silent all through the sessions
  • Ask question on grey areas to ensure you have complete understanding
  • Collect and safely keep all flipcharts, notepads, post-it-notes from your groups’ sessions after each session is closed. These will be handed over to the lead facilitator with the other submissions for your assigned group
Consultancy Period With Key Milestones:
  • May/June 2019: Collaboration with CDGP/Save the Children team to understand agenda and strategy of workshop
  • June 2019:  Knowledge Transfer Writeshop
  • June 2019: Finalization of Knowledge products from Workshop
  • June 2019: Submission of workshop report and Knowledge products

  • Good knowledge of northern Nigeria cultural context
  • Able to work effectively as part of a diverse global team
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Great team player and ability to work under tight deadline
  • High attention to detail and ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Excellent oral, written, presentation and communications skills in English
