Data Analyst, Food Security at the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP)

Posted on Mon 17th Jun, 2019 - hotnigerianjobs.com --- (0 comments)

The United Nations World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. The mission of WFP is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger in our lifetimes. Every day, WFP works worldwide to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Data Analyst, Food Security P3 - FIT Pool

Ref Id: 105782
Location: Unspecified

About the FIT Pool
  • The Future International Talent Pool (FIT Pool) is an entry point for a professional international career with WFP. WFP is looking to build a pool of highly qualified and dynamic talents interested in going to any of our 80 countries in which WFP operates, including hardship duty stations, when the need arises. A FIT Pool member is placed on the pool for a period up to 2 years during which he/ she is considered with priority each time WFP has a specific need for a Fixed Term International Professional staff member in his/her functional area and level.
Detailed Description
  • Are you passionate about providing insights that will provide creative solutions to change and save the lives of millions of beneficiaries? If yes, this opportunity is for you.
  • We are looking for Data Analysts at a P3 level to join the World Food Programme (WFP) at Vulnerability Analysis Mapping (VAM). WFP is looking to build a pool of highly qualified and dynamic talents interested in going to any country where we operate - including difficult duty stations.
  • VAM is a core area for WFP; VAM forms the basis for the design of all of our operations. Prior to any intervention, WFP undertakes an analysis of the food security situation and answers some critical questions: who is food insecure or vulnerable and why?; how many are they and where do they live?; what should be done to save their lives and livelihoods?; how is the situation likely to evolve and, what are the risks threatening them?
  • VAM provides geospatial and economic analysis, food security monitoring and assessments, and thematic analysis. This allows WFP to perform effective targeting and define the most appropriate type and scale of intervention (such as food distributions, school feeding, cash or voucher programmes). Therefore, in this role you will generate the evidence base that supports nutrition and food security policies and programmes.
Job Responsabilities
  • In this position your main responsabilities will be:Provide technical advice and support on food security and nutrition strategies, policies, and programmes.
  • Facilitate the timely and productive use of information in line with WFP processes and standards.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of systems and tools for monitoring and assess needs based on standard and creative methodologies.
  • Lead and conduct analysis to provide timely reports on food assessment needs aligned with WFP standards and processes.
  • Enable effective decision-making by guiding the development of the country strategy, programmes and policies.
  • Keep up to date and advise on food assistance developments that may potentially impact upon the WFP activity to enable timely and appropriate programme evolution and intervention.
  • Provide technical guidance, interpretations and recommendations to develop programme activities and to facilitate the effective reach of food assistance needs.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to colleagues to ensure their development and enable them to perform at their best.
  • Build capacity of WFP staff, external organizations and national governments to conduct analysis on any related topic to food security and nutrition to effectively inform policies and programmes.
  • Support the monitoring and evaluation of WFP activities by providing technical knowledge to support the assessment of activity impact.
  • Represent WFP with partners to contribute to technical discussions, exchange of knowledge and experience, and seek for appropriate interventions based on evidence and areas of potential collaboration.
  • Support partners to enable sharing of experiences, lessons learned and standard methodologies.
  • Act in an assigned emergency response capacity as required to meet emergency food assistance needs.
  • Incorporate a gender perspective in areas of your work, to ensure equal participation of women and men.
  • Contribute to (or lead when requested) the development of Monitoring plans that will provide the most relevant and strategic information toward achieving expected results (as set out in the Country Strategic Plan (CSP) and other global and regional plans), while being compliant with WFP monitoring requirements.
  • Other as required.
Standard Minimum Requirements
