Job Description
We are looking for an innovative and goal-driven individual to join our research team. This individual will work closely and report to the Head of Research.

Job Objectives
Data Analysis and Reporting:
Analyse data from internal and external sources using a variety of methods
Develop and execute data analytics research plans, developing analytical tools as needed
Produce relevant descriptive statistics, segmentation analysis of patterns and trends, and inferential statistics
Where possible, combine analysis of multiple datasets to identify relevant insights
Synthesise key findings and insights that can be used to drive financial inclusion
Prepare presentations and reports to communicate research findings effectively
Use a variety of methods to communicate information, including visual/graphical representations of data
Lead briefings on emerging trends in the data, new strategic opportunities and the synthesis of data across EFInA’s strategic areas
Data Collection:
Identify and source relevant external datasets, through desk research and engagement with stakeholders
Assess the quality and limitations of internal and external datasets
In conjunction with colleagues on the Research team, manage EFInA’s research projects, including planning research projects, developing Terms of Reference documents, selecting vendors, overseeing development of research tools, and supervising research activities to monitor for high quality standards and timely delivery
Support the research team in developing questionnaires and other research tools that will yield high-quality, useful data
Participate in data weighting and/or supervise partners, such as the National Bureau of Statistics, in weighting data
Strategic Planning:
Provide input to EFInA’s research strategy and annual activity planning
Stay abreast of topics relevant to inclusive finance, including but not limited to digital financial services and FinTech, agent networks, etc.
Keep up to date with new developments in research methodology
Stakeholder Engagement:
In conjunction with the Head of Research and other EFInA colleagues, support the capacity building of stakeholders in the Nigerian financial sector (regulators, financial service providers, etc) to use data effectively in ways that can contribute to financial inclusion
When needed, deputise for the Head of Research, which may include attending internal and external meetings, overseeing the work of the research team, and acting as an effective ambassador for the team and the organisation more broadly
Develop strong and effective working relationships with a range of external partners including research firms, regulators, universities, and partners undertaking research assignments for EFInA
Make presentations to internal and external stakeholders on research findings
Risk Management:
Ensure that any data collected, analysed and/or shared whilst performing these duties is handled in line with relevant data protection laws, regulations and policies
Help EFInA adhere to data privacy standards and legal requirements by establishing data management policies/procedures, and helping staff across EFInA understand these policies and procedures
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Essential:
Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Economics, or a social science (or related subject) from a reputable institution
Master’s Degree in Statistics, Development Economics, or related field, from a reputable institution
Minimum four years (post NYSC) work experience
Experience scoping, designing and delivering research, including identifying, developing and testing appropriate tools and reporting methods
Excellent analysis skills with a strong ability to work with large quantitative datasets, conduct segmentation and trends analysis, identify key themes in complex material, test interpretation and ensure that messages are relevant to practice and policy contexts
Confident working with multiple types of datasets, including survey data
A sound understanding of statistics and extensive experience conducting statistical analyses using software such as SPSS
Experience developing reports and building dashboards, and experience using (or enthusiasm to learn about) data visualisation and analytics tools
Confident identifying and communicating implications from data, and presenting them in a range of formats to both specialist and non-specialist audiences
Experience leading projects, including scoping requirements, forward planning, monitoring progress against delivery, identifying and mitigating risks to delivery
Experienced team worker, comfortable working with colleagues and stakeholders from different disciplines
Ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Willingness to travel
Ability to deliver results independently with low levels of supervision
Very high level of attention to detail and accuracy
Strong verbal and written communications skills
Good interpersonal skills
Desirable:
Experience conducting or managing primary research (quantitative and qualitative) and experimental design
Familiar with the body of evidence relating to financial inclusion
Prior experience teaching others to analyse and use data effectively
