Job Title: Gender/Reproductive Health Analyst - NOB

The Position
  • The Programme Analyst substantively contributes to the effective management of UNFPA activities in the areas of gender and reproductive health with a strong emphasis on supporting the implementation of the Global Affairs Canada project aimed at addressing GBV/HTP’s in Bauchi, Sokoto and Oyo States in Nigeria.
  • S/he analyzes and assesses relevant political, social and economic trends and provides substantive inputs to programme formulation, support implementation, monitoring, and evaluation within national development frameworks and the UN Sustainable Development Partnership Framework.
  • Under the overall guidance of the UNFPA Resident Representative & Deputy Representative and the direct supervision of the Kaduna Programme Coordinator and Head, Lagos Liaison Office, with functional reporting to the Gender/RH Project Specialist, the Gender/RH Analyst works closely with UNFPA Gender/GBV unit and SRHR team for a comprehensive response to ending GBV and harmful practices.
  • S/he will also work closely with the State Ministry of Health Departments, Local Governments, NGOs and partners to enhance UNFPA programming in the three States.

Job Purpose
  • The Global Affairs Canada funded Gender and HTP’s project is aimed at reducing prevalence of Gender Based Violence, Child Early and Forced Marriage, Obstetric Fistula and Female Genital Mutilation, create an enabling environment and, provide treatment and care for affected women and girls in Nigeria.
  • The programme Analyst will endeavour project achievement, supports data generation and legislations on GBV and harmful traditional practices, and implements strategic interventions addressing child marriage, female genital mutilation and obstetric fistula through delaying marriages and provision of essential services as well as social norm and behavioural change.
Main Tasks & Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
  • Collaborating with stakeholders, government and CSOs, in designing and implementing GBV/HTP and SRHR programmes, monitoring and evaluation, in support of UNFPA’s programme goals.
  • Undertaking advocacy activities with policy makers at all levels to ensure sustained support for programme implementation in the 3 states.
  • Providing technical assistance within the framework of the Project Implementation Plan for achieving the GBV/HTP project deliverables and the SRHR and young person’s components of the Country Office Programmes.
  • Contributing to the production of Implementing Partners AWPs and annual reports.
  • Analysing and interpret the political, social and economic environment relevant to population and development, reproductive health and gender, and identify opportunities for the UNFPA assistance and intervention.
  • Identifing and monitor risks that could interfere with programme delivery and coherence in the State; and design sustainable and practicable mitigation measures.
  • Mobilizing government counterpart contributions and explore opportunities for additional resources in support of the project and UNFPA.
  • Assisting in advocacy and resource mobilization efforts of the Decentralized Office by preparing relevant documentation, i.e. project summaries, conference papers, donor profiles and participating in donor meetings and public information events.
  • Undertaking any other activities/responsibilities as needed by UNFPA Leadership.
Qualifications and Experience
Education:
  • Master's Degree in Public Health, Reproductive Health, Gender, Development Studies and/or other related social science field. 
Knowledge and Experience:
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant post-master’s degree working experience in programming for Gender and SRH;
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic programme management with strong technical knowledge of gender/gender based violence, reproductive health and/or young people;
  • Knowledge of population, reproductive health, gender/gender-based violence and youth issues;
  • Interpersonal and communication skills for the dissemination of information and leadership for advocacy activities that should progressively lead to reduction of gender based violence;
  • Experience in working with government institutions and donor organizations;
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills;
Languages:
  • Fluency in English required.
  • Strong capability to communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written English will be an asset. Fluency in the local language spoken in the 3 states  -  Bauchi, Sokoto (Hausa) and Oyo State (Yoruba) would be an advantage.
