Job Title: Counsel Educator

Contract Duration: 6 Months Renewable

Level: 5
Main Purpose
Perform basic counseling and/or educational activities to patients, families, communities, following MSF protocols and procedures, in order to improve the health condition of the patients, survivors, new arrivals and vulnerable population.
Accountabilities:
Actively promote the availability of MSF services
Carry out, individually or in group, basic counselling and/or educational sessions, to patients, their families, hospital staff and/or the community
Refer patients when necessary to other specialists or external actors in order to provide the best available support
Collect and report specific information related to the target group
Keep files and statistics updated about the counseling and/or educational activities
Give testimonies to patients and in the community on own experiences as a patient
MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities
Work with the social workers within the camps and community to;
Attending new arrivals and give direct support within the scope of the project.
Actively promote the availability of basic psychosocial support, PFA to patients, their families (when needed), in order to alleviate their psychosocial difficulties within the project scope.
Identify protection concern within the project scope.
Refer patients to other protection actors, for further assistance, when necessary in order to propose the best support available.
Keep files and statistics of daily activities and participate in team meetings to share experiences and discuss special cases with the protection team, preserving confidentiality at all times.
To fill up protection data questionnaires and to held FGD in order to evaluate the living condition of the population within the project scope.
Inform supervisor of any problem of any kind arising during the day-to-day activities.
Identify social needs of patients through a social assessment.
Follow up on all protection cases in the Camps and Host community.
Report and discuss the cases with the Social Worker and refer to mental health (when needed), hospitals and others facilities and provide services according to needs.
Remain flexible for any work delegated to you by your supervisor
Requirements
Education Formal: Degree in Social Work
Experience: 1 year experience in related position. Makes part of the target group of patients and is willing to share his own experiences as a patient
Languages: English, Hausa and Kanuri essential. Mandara is desirable
Knowledge: Essential computer literacy ( word, excel and internet)
NGN 3,014,622 (Annual Basic salary + 13th Month) As per the MSF salary scale (National contract).
