Job Purpose

• Agricultural engineering combines the disciplines of mechanical, civil, electrical, and chemical engineering principles with a knowledge of agricultural principles. An agricultural engineer is someone who helps to make farming sustainable, safe, and environmentally friendly. He or she analyzes agricultural operations and looks at new technologies and ways of doing things to improve land use, increase yields, and conserve resources.
• Agricultural engineers also recommend ways to protect the health, safety and security of workers, animals, and agricultural products.
• We need a bold and strategic individual with an outside-the-box mentality, innovation is a required to partner a diverse team of farmers and other farm managers to ultimately improve farm yield.

Responsibilities
As an Irrigation Manager, you will be saddled with the following responsibilities:

• The irrigation manager’s job includes in-field soil moisture monitoring and data interpretation
• Irrigation manager job responsibilities also include monitoring the installation and repair of irrigation tools.
• These candidates are also responsible for conducting land and soil surveys to employ best irrigation technique for that area.
• These professionals are also required to work on the development of new tools and techniques in the field of irrigation, which can help in performing irrigations tasks more efficiently
• Irrigation manager job responsibilities also include time to time inspection of plants, crops, grass etc. to analyze whether the irrigation is done properly and plants are getting enough water for their growth.
• These managers are also responsible for creating and managing irrigation schedules and coordinating with other departments related with other aspects of the project other than irrigation.
• These managers are also required to educate technicians with any new techniques and advances in the field of irrigation, so that technicians can adapt to the new technologies.
• The manager must be able to draw up a maintenance schedule for general and seasonal maintenance Install irrigation timers, piping and valves.
• Create and design monitoring tools to prevent over and under watering with integration into the digital space
• Perform such other activities as may be temporarily or permanently assigned.

Requirements

• At least a Bachelor's degree or Engineering degree in a discipline relevant to Water in Agriculture / Irrigation / Civil and Drainage (or in Water Resources Management with demonstrable affinity with the WiA sector)
• A minimum of 3 years of relevant professional and operational experience
• Substantive international experience working on agricultural water development. Work experience and good knowledge of South/Eastern Europe and Central Asia are preferable.
• A track record of working on irrigation and drainage projects, with specific experiences working with schemes of varying sizes and with a range of partners and contractual arrangements
• Proven ability to work flexibly on assignments and adjust to and prioritize a variety of complex and evolving tasks; proactively seeking guidance on complex tasks or issues from senior specialists and staff
• Strong interpersonal and team skills; ability to think strategically and to develop effective relations with clients, beneficiaries, and within the World Bank.
• Excellent organizational, research, written, and oral presentation skills, preferably demonstrated in a track record of peer-reviewed publications and delivery of presentations in relevant international forums.
• Proven ability to work in a team and intercultural environment with minimal supervision.
• Hands-on and action-oriented and proactive approach.
• Computer skills should be adequate for the analytical and report writing demands of this position
• Fluency in English. Knowledge of one or more of South/Eastern European and Central Asia languages is an advantage
• Enthusiasm for and commitment to development work; willing to travel and work in remote areas in the field.

Experience:

• Two to three years of field experience on running irrigation operations, or equivalent and knowledge of water hydraulic principles.
