The Position
The Chief Engineer will work with other team members of the TV station to plan and evaluate all TV project activities and ensure that the technical facilities of the TV operate at the highest quality within required guidelines and established budget.
Duties and Responsibilities
To coordinate and plan the installation, maintenance, and operation of broadcast television equipment and facilities
Monitor strength, clarity, and reliability of incoming and outgoing signals and adjust equipment as necessary to maintain quality broadcasts
To manage all technical operations for the TV stations
Technical Inventory and spares Management
Automated station play-out & Commercial Traffic
News Automation with Octopus Newsroom Computer system (NRCS) with Capability for simultaneous news publishing on TV, Web & Social Media
To Support Broadcasting user departments to ensure that they meet their commercial and production obligations
Operations & Maintenance of the Signal Distribution Network
Championing technology leadership and digital media transformation within the organization
Liaison with the Nigeria Communications Commission on broadcast regulatory matters
Forecasting on Technical needs for the TV station
Evaluation and scoring for all outgoing technical tenders in the TV station
Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for the flawless execution of the TV projects
Developing project scopes and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility and conclusion of the TV set up
Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget
Maintain a high level of broadcast industry technical and business knowledge to keep the broadcast infrastructure up to industry standards
Ensures the highest quality television signal by overseeing the daily operations of the engineering and master control functions
Ensures that broadcast equipment is maintained and operates within broadcast standards and guidelines provided by the National Broadcasting Commission and other regulatory agencies by developing, scheduling, performing, and supervising routine, preventive, and emergency maintenance of technical equipment located in the studio and at transmitter sites
Analyse systems and or workflow to identify issues, improvements and solutions
Create and implement best practice engineering vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve business performance
Ensure that engineering strategies and processes are in place to meet business objectives and operational needs in terms of price, quality and delivery targets which enables the company to function and compete effectively in the market.
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or related discipline
Minimum of ten (10) years of station-level broadcast television engineering experience
Sound understanding and demonstrated expertise in setting up of TV station
Experience in managing complex technical projects
Able to supervise and train staff on use of equipment
Self-starter and able to work with moderate supervision
Must be able to work flexible hours and weekends as required.
