Bowen University Admission into Pre-Degree Programme for the 2014/2015 Academic Session

Bowen University, an institution under the proprietorship of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, is committed to adding a distinctly moral dimension and Godly values to tertiary education in Nigeria.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into Bowen University’s one-year residential Pre-Degree Programme for the 201412015 Academic Session.

1. The Programme’s Golden Advantages
This University’s one year Pre-Degree Programme which is preparatory to degree programmes, is available to candidates who are yet to qualify fully for admission into degree programmes due to some deficiencies in their WAEC/NECO/GCE O/L or JAMB-UTME examinations results. To such candidates, the programme offers at least three golden advantages, namely:

(a) Sound Academic Work.
Through intensive teaching, tutorials and individualized coaching by dedicated full-time graduate teachers, the students learn enough quickly to enable them make-up for their deficiencies by passing with high grades in their subsequent JAMB-UTME and GCE O/L examinations, as well as the end-of-pre-degree programme’s internal examinations. This claim is borne out of the University’s experience over the past ten years, 2004 to 2014, during which ten sets of students completed their pre-degree programmes and entered into various degree programmes of their choice in this University, where most of them have been performing very well.

The programme operates in a distinctly peaceful, safe, disciplined and fully residential campus at Osogbo, where it is served by a committed team of hostel, medical, security and counselling staff, who make the campus atmosphere conducive for learning and congenial for decent personal development. It is also observed that the contribution of student leaders that emerge constitutes a positive feedback that accentuates the beauty of campus life, which helps the products to blend into the decorum prevailing on the Main Campus at Iwo in the following year.

3.) Entry Requirements

(a) Sciences and Medicine
Minimum of three (3) credits at not more than two sittings in SSCE, GCE, NECO or approved equivalents in any of English Language, Mathematics, Biology/Agricultural Science, Chemistry and Physics.

(b) Social and Management Sciences, Humanities and Law
Minimum of three (3) credits at not more than two sittings in SSCE, GCE, NECO or approved equivalents in any of English Language, Mathematics, Economics, Government, Geography, Commerce, Accounting, Literature in English, History, Christian Religious Studies and Biology

4.) Scope of the Programmme
Candidates will initially be admitted into the Pre-Degree Programme, at the end of which final placement of successful candidates will be done. Students will undergo sound teaching in both theory and practical aspects of their subjects for two semesters of 15 weeks each in the following subjects:

(a) Sciences and Medicine
English Language, Mathematics, BiologylAgricultural Science, Chemistry and Physics.

(b) Social and Management Sciences, Humanities and Law
English Language, Mathematics, Economics, Government, Accounting, Literature in English,
History, Christian Religious Studies and Biology.

5.) Placement into Degree Programmes
(a) Criteria for Selection:
Final selection of successful candidates into any of the degree programmes offered by the University as listed below, will be based on the following:

• Performance in the Pie-Degree examination,
• The JAM B/UTME score, and
• Obtaining the minimum of five (5) ‘0’ level credits requirement at not more than two sittings in SSCE, GCE, NECO or approved equivalents, at the time of registration.

• Management; Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, Animal Science and Fisheries Management, and Crop Production and Soil Management.
• BSc Degree Programme in Food Science and Technology.
• B. Forestry Degree Programme in Forestry and Environmental Technology

(iii) FACULTY OF HUMANITIES:
B.A. Degree Programmes in Communication Arts, Music, Theatre Arts, English, History, History and International Studies, Philosophy and Religious Studies.

(iv) FACULTYOF LAW:
LLB Degree Programme in Law.

(v) FACULTY OF SCIENCE AND SCIENCE EDUCATION:
B.Sc Degree Programmes in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Computer Science, Industrial Chemistry, Mathematics, Microbiology, Physics and Solar Energy, Plant Biology, Statistics, and Zoology.

(Vi) FACULTY OF SOCIALAND MANAGEMENT SCIENCES:
B.Sc Degree Programmes in Accounting, Business Administration, Banking & Finance, Economics, Sociology and Mass Communication.

6.) Mode of Application
(a) Application forms may be obtained from the Application Form Sales Centres listed below, upon the presentation of a nonrefundable application fee of N5,000 in bank draft payable to BOWEN UNIVERSITY, IWO

(b) Bank draft should be obtained from any of the following banks:
