Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, formerly Ondo State University, was established in 1982 by an act of the Ondo State Government. The University relocated to its present site at Akungba-Akoko in 1999. At present, it has a little over 20,000 students, 1,200 staff and seven Faculties - Agriculture, Arts, Education, Environmental Design and Management, Law, Science, and Social & Management Sciences.

Adekunle Ajasin University is determined to maintain and consolidate its reputation for delivering world-class scholarship, education and research, and wishes to continue playing a central role in the development of humanities in Nigeria, Ondo State and the local community. The University is thus currently engaged in major academic, social and infrastructural developments - all directed at producing globally - competitive graduates.

In pursuit of the mission and strategic goals of the University, the Governing Council of Adekunle Ajasin University is inviting suitably qualified and highly motivated candidates with sufficient academic and administrative experiences to apply for the position below:

Job Title: Vice Chancellor

Location: Ondo

The Position

• The Vice Chancellor is the Academic and Administrative Head of the University and is responsible, under the Governing Council and in accordance with the Statute of the University, for organizing and conducting the Academic, Financial and Administrative business of the University.
• The Vice Chancellor, as the Accounting Officer of the University, will be the chief academic, administrative and financial officer of the University.
• He/she is the chief disciplinary officer and has authority over all employees and students of the University, subject to the Statute and Conditions of Service of the University.
• The Vice Chancellor is responsible for protecting the integrity of the University. The Vice Chancellor is responsible for the promotion of a world-class, high quality University education and the provision of necessary academic and administrative leadership.
• Reporting to the University Council, he has mandate to provide institutional leadership and oversight, develop and drive the vision, mission and strategies for advancement of the University.
• The position calls for a versatile and respected individual of personal and professional integrity, with a distinguished record of accomplishment in the University system and with proven leadership qualities, administrative and intellectual capabilities as well as teaching and research credentials.

The Person
The candidate, who should be a seasoned academic, should possess the following minimum qualifications and competencies:

• Be a holder of an earned Doctorate (Ph.D) Degree, in addition to a good First Degree not lower than Second Class Lower, from a reputable University;
• Have attained the position of a full Professor for at least 7 years from the date of this advertisement and must have held major senior administrative responsibilities in a recognized University;
• Be a visionary and strategic leader with the skills and competencies to champion the University’s Vision and Strategic Objectives;
• Must be recognized nationally and internationally as an accomplished academic in his field with a verifiable proven record of quality research, extensive publications and contribution to knowledge;
• Have demonstrable and proven ability to attract funding to the university from National and International sources;
• Have demonstrable ability through his / her record to maintain partnership / collaboration with national and international governmental and non-governmental agencies and organizations;
• Must demonstrate clear literacy and proficiency in Information and Communications Technology;
• Must have entrepreneurial and innovative capacity to drive a new vital age for the university;
• Must enjoy excellent physical and mental health.

Terms of Appointment

• The Vice Chancellor shall hold office for one term of five (5) years and must not be older than 64 years at the date of assumption of duty.
• The terms and conditions of appointment are very attractive and shall be determined according to the University's Statute and Conditions of Service.
