54gene was founded in 2019 by Dr. Abasi Ene-Obong to address the significant gap in the global genomics market; Nearly 90% of genetic material used in pharmaceutical research is Caucasian. Only 2% is African, despite the fact that Africans and people of African ancestry are more genetically diverse than all other world populations combined.

Job Description

• We are looking for Content Writers who are able to produce engaging written pieces for publication online and in print for our organization. The content writers will come up with well-researched content on industry-related topics, generate ideas for new content types, and proofreading articles before publishing. 
• The content writer will work closely with our Communications and Marketing team in showcasing 54gene on different platforms and creating more brand awareness

Essential Functions

• Produce well-researched content for publication online and in print
• Develop related content for multiple platforms, such as websites, email marketing, product descriptions, videos, and blogs
• Organize writing schedules to complete drafts of content or finished projects within deadlines
• Utilize industry best practices and familiarity with 54gene  and 7RL's mission to inspire ideas and content
• Communicate and cooperate with a writing team, including a content manager, editors, and web publishers
• Follow an editorial calendar, collaborating with other members of the content production team to ensure timely delivery of materials
• Use search engine optimization (SEO) strategies in writing to maximize the online visibility of a website in search results

Requirements

• Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Proven record of excellent writing within the life sciences demonstrated in a professional portfolio
• An impeccable grasp of the English language, including idioms and current trends in slang and expressions
• Ability to work independently with little or no daily supervision
• Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to communicate with clients, colleagues, and management
• Ability to work on multiple projects with different objectives simultaneously
• Strict adherence to the style guides of each company and their policies for publication
• Good time management skills, including prioritizing, scheduling, and adapting as necessary
• Proficiency with computers, especially writing programs, such as WordPress, Google Docs, and Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
• Familiarity with content requirements and the company’s brand image, products, and services.

Education & Certifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, English, Life sciences,  Journalism or related field

Experience:

• Proven record of excellent writing within the life sciences demonstrated in a professional portfolio
• Experience doing research using multiple sources.
