About 40% of children miss out on school and have to work to survive while nearly 2 million children have lost one or both parents to an AIDS-related disease.

We are recruiting to fill the position of:

Child Safeguarding

  • Level 3 - The responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to children or young people.

Position Overview

  • Under the supervision of the Gender and Inclusion Advisor, the post holder will be responsible for the planning, implementation and reporting of the gender and social inclusion activities (as well as the achievement of the expected outputs) of a Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) funded social protection systems strengthening programme that is working to strengthen Nigeria’s social protection systems strengthen towards bringing about significant reductions in multi-dimensional poverty across the country.
  • Specifically, he/she will work closely with other members of the programme team in the country office and the programme’s focal states to identify barriers to inclusive social protection for marginalized and vulnerable or excluded population groups and develop appropriate interventions.

 Key Areas of Accountability:

  • Under the supervision of the Gender and Inclusion Advisor, facilitate the development and implementation of a gender-responsive social inclusion strategy (focused on children, people with disabilities and other excluded groups as appropriate) for the programme. 
  • Work closely with the Social Protection and Inclusion Coordinators (SPICS) in each of the focal states to plan and implement social inclusion activities that are aligned to the programme’s theory of change, outcomes and log-frame.  
  • Gather and report regular progress updates from the SPICS to ensure programme activities and indicators are on target.
  • In collaboration with the Knowledge Management Coordinator and Communications Specialist, collect and share learnings, success stories and best practices related to social protection for vulnerable, marginalized and excluded groups, including people with disabilities and girls.
  • Collaborate with other members of the programme team to scale up activities to promote and meet the needs of vulnerable and excluded population groups, particularly children and people with disabilities.  
  • In collaboration with the MEAL Coordinator ensure result-oriented reporting in line with programme outcomes.
  • Lead sensitization of stakeholders and partners at the federal level on inclusive social protection for people with disabilities.
  • Identify gaps in awareness and opportunities for capacity building of partners and stakeholders and coordinate and facilitate technical/ programming support and trainings as needed.
  • Provide technical inputs to documents, briefs and presentations related to inclusive social protection outcomes.
  • Manage social inclusion related research contracts as and when required.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential:

  • A First Degree in a Social Science discipline (a relevant Post-graduate Degree will be an added advantage)
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience progressive experience in similar or related roles.
  • Experience working with people with disabilities and/or in empowerment programmes
  • Strong programme management skills.
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Very good reporting skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills  
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles

Desirable:

  • Prior experience working with Save the Children
  • Prior experience in a similar role
  • Strong advocacy and lobbying skills.
