The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, emergency food security, and water, sanitation and hygiene sectors.

Role and Responsibilities

• The Driver is responsible for transporting NRC staff, visitors, documents and goods/materials to designated destinations officially approved within an area, country or other location.

Generic Responsibilities:

• Transport NRC staff, visitors, documents and goods/materials to approved destinations
• Ensure the safety and security of the passengers, the goods and the vehicle
• Immediately report accidents, breakdowns and needs of repair and general maintenance/service to the fleet officer
• Respect the local traffic regulations and the NRC logistical/vehicle policies at all times
• Maintain the logbook for all trips
• Maintain the vehicle in proper operating condition at all times, including keeping the vehicle clean, ensuring enough fuel, checking the technical state etc.
• In liaison with the fleet officer, arrange for repairs and servicing
• Ensure the assigned vehicle has all the necessary documents and equipment
• Provide logistical support during training and workshops.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Transport NRC staff, visitors, documents and goods/materials to designated destinations
• Ensure the safety and security of the passengers, the goods and the vehicle
• Ensure the vehicle is always clean and in proper condition.
• Drive NRC vehicles to pick or drop employees at their designated duty areas within and sometimes outside Borno State
• Deliver Important documents to required destinations as directed.
• Ensure that all deliveries have been signed and delivered to the correct recipient
• Perform preventive and regular maintenance on NRC vehicle
• Convey NRC staff on assignments in and out of the office to their desired destinations
• Pick up and drop off NRC staff and partners from the airport to their destinations
• Chart the best route possible in order to save time
• Update the office on the status of the vehicle particulars for timely registrations and renewals.

• All programmes.
• All support functions.

Qualifications

• At least SSCE (WASSCE or NECO) educational qualification is required

Professional competencies:
Generic professional competencies for this position:

• Previous experience from working as a driver or service support staff
• Valid driver’s license
• Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts preferred
• Fluency in English and Hausa, both written and verbal.

Context related skills, knowledge and experience

• Good basic arithmetic skills.
• Defensive driving skills.
• Experience in handling high profiled vehicles such as SUV and double cab pick-up.
• Ability to make a good and quick decision on the wheel.
