Job Title: Molecular Laboratory Lead

Position Summary
S/he will be an integral part of the vibrant laboratory program management team, taking a primary role in supporting training, ensuring quality and expanding laboratory capacity in Molecular Biology in Nigeria.
This will span diagnostics, host response and studies of pathogenesis, for rapid detection and reporting of outbreak-prone diseases and antimicrobial resistance testing.
S/he will report to the Laboratory Program Director and is expected to improve the quality and take a leading technical support role in the project.
Major Responsibilities
Coordinate the design, planning and implementation of molecular laboratory services according to national and international standards ensuring compliance with all applicable local regulations.
Develop and reviews guidelines, tools, SOPs and recommendations related to implementation and monitoring
Laboratory Continuous Quality Improvement in molecular laboratories.
Take the lead in the implementation of Quality Management Systems in molecular Laboratories to achieve and maintain ISO15189 accreditation.
Ensure optimal functionality, linkage of the Laboratory Information System, LIMS-EMR exchange and PCR laboratory interoperability with other related e-solutions to reduce TAT
Coordinate the access and use of molecular laboratories and ensure smooth and uninterrupted operations.
Ensure molecular laboratories are maintained to the highest standard by assisting with the development and maintenance SOPs, competency assessments, checklists, equipment maintenance/calibration procedures
Lead the process for the correlation of new procedures and assays, policy and procedures review and supporting documentation.
Identify need and support the implementation of focused training within the Molecular laboratories
Education
B.MLS in Biomedical Sciences.
Advanced Degree in Biomedical Sciences preferred
Experience, Skills, and Minimum Qualifications:
At least 3 years of relevant experience at a senior level in a high quality molecular laboratory
Demonstrable Experience with independent assay development and troubleshooting new techniques
Demonstrable Experience in providing technical support and capacity building
Demonstrable Experience of writing SOPs and other procedural documents
Demonstrable Experience with quality assurance
Demonstrable Experience in administration and resource management
Experience working in resource limited settings.
