The Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH (German Agency for International Cooperation) is an international enterprise owned by the German Federal government, operating in many fields across more than 130 countries.
In Nigeria, GIZ's portfolio includes among others, a programme to support the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in its regional integration goals. The programme aims to strengthen sector-specific capacities in the areas of Peace and Security, Customs and Trade as weir as Strategic Management and Organizational Development in the ECOWAS Commission.

The registered offices of GIZ are in Bonn and Eschborn. In 2019, we generated a business volume of around EUR 3.1 billion. Our 22,199 employees, almost 70 per cent of whom are national staff, work in around 120 countries. As a recognised development service provider, we currently have 556 development workers in action in partner countries.
Furthermore, in 2019, the Centre for International Migration and Development (CIM), which is run jointly by GIZ and the German Federal Employment Agency, placed 262 integrated experts and 515 returning experts with local employers in our partner countries, or provided them with financial support, advice or other services. The Programme
The global programme “Migration for Development” (PME) works on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
The PME aims at creating opportunities for returning migrants as well as for the local population (potential migrants).
To this end, the PME has established a structure for employment promotion, migration and reintegration advice, the Nigerian-German Center for Jobs Migration and Reintegration (NGC).
The NGC provides individual counselling services and advice on prospects for both returning and potential migrants in Nigeria, economic (re)integration support, information on vocational and educational perspectives and employment opportunities including entrepreneurship and self-employment.
Responsibilities and Tasks
Safely and responsibly performing all official travel using official vehicles
Regularly servicing and looking after official vehicles
Taking account of all available information on road conditions, accessible routes and locations
Running official errands
Assisting with other office work.
The Driver will Performs the following tasks:
Driving:
Provide transport in an official car for office, programme staff, official visitors and guests
Run errands for the project, programme or office, e.g., sending letters and messages, paying bills and buying smaller quantities of office supplies.
Help with transporting goods.
Complete the vehicle log correctly and conscientiously in accordance with GIZ standards.
Service:
Clean the interior and exterior of the vehicle(s) regularly.
Check oil, water, brakes and brake liquid, tyre pressure, battery levels and the entire vehicle, monthly or every 5,000 km (whichever is first), headlights, brakes, bodywork for dents etc.
Keep the project vehicle documents in good condition, a vehicle log and recording monthly maintenance
Calculate monthly petrol, oil and lubricant consumption for the daily cash fund and for forward monthly vouchers to cost accounting
Report the need for service and carries out minor repairs
Immediately report all involvement of the project or office vehicle in accidents, including minor accidents, damage, loss or theft of vehicle fittings.
Other Duties:
Uses all available information (including current radio news on traffic conditions) to update daily knowledge of road conditions, current passable routes and locations, and shares this information with other office drivers.
Assists other colleagues as needed in the project, programme or office if there is no travel pending, carries out other office work on request.
Required Qualifications, Competencies and Experience
Qualification
Secondary School Education
Must hold a valid driver’s license
Professional Experience:
Minimum of 3 years’ work experience as a driver with references
No major accidents in the past 3 years
Other Experiences and Skills:
Good knowledge of the English language
Discipline and punctuality
Resilience and patience
Familiarity with Lagos
Appropriate appearance and attire
Friendly manner with all passengers
Ensures unrestricted availability of vehicles at all times and reports restrictions immediately
Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed
Willingness to spend assignments spanning several days in the field, including neighboring states.
Salary
According to GIZ salary scale for Band 1.
