Job Title: Senior Legal Associate

Location: Ikeja, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Description

  • Our client needs the service of a senior associate.
  • The Legal Officer shall be responsible for monitoring and/or advising on all legal matters, managing client’s cases from start to finish, commercial contracts, and agreements.
  • The Legal counsel shall also ensure that their client complies with the statutory and corporate governance practices and guidelines as observed in the Labour Act and other statutes.

Duties

  • Provide advice on corporate legal issues and business matters.
  • Advising clients and conducting legal research on their behalf at the Land Registry, Corporate Affairs Commission, NAFDAC, NTDA etc
  • Preparing and reviewing legal documents ahead of a court hearing.
  • Developing litigation strategies
  • Gathering evidence, updating and consulting with Principal Partner
  • Evaluate and manage pre-litigation disputes
  • Develop and maintain good client relationship skills, gaining client’s confidence
  • Attend and represent the firm at client’s meetings.
  • Advise clients concerning business transactions, joint ventures etc
  • Interpret laws, ruling and regulations for individuals and businesses.
  • Confer with colleagues with specialties in appropriate areas of legal issues to establish and verify bases for legal proceedings.
  • Analyse and review legal agreements, legislation and documents as may be directed.
  • Review and draft contracts, agreements and internal policies and ensure that they are in compliance with all statutory or legal requirements.
  • Maintain firm’s calendar
  • Type legal documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery documents, and subpoenas
  • Actively engaged and assisting in providing corporate & commercial advisory services.
  • Perform administrative and management function related to the practice of law
  • Any other duties as may be assigned.

Requirements

  • A minimum of second class upper Degree in Law (LL. B) and must have been called to the Nigerian bar.
  • Minimum of 5 years post NYSC relevant work experience.
  • Strong knowledge of corporate law.
  • Ability to prepare Strong Legal document.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation laws, policies and procedures.
  • Good understanding of general and specific company and commercial law
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong Negotiation Skills.
  • Microsoft Offices (word, excel, power point)
  • Time Management
  • Ability to learn fast and maintain confidentiality
