Project Overview
The Strengthening Global Health Security Agenda in Nigeria (SECURE-NIGERIA) is a United States’ Centers for Disease Control (US CDC) funded project. A component of this project seeks to build capacity for Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) surveillance personnel through a training program on an advanced epidemiological data analysis.
The training program will comprise an initial 2 weeks in-person training, follow up virtual sessions, and development of an online self-paced learning modules.
The training program is designed to build competencies of selected NCDC personnel in:
Knowledge of statistical terminologies and use of Stata to perform statistical analysis
Knowledge and use of descriptive epidemiology to analyze disease exposure relationships
Practice of statistical analysis of epidemiological studies and sample size calculations
Practice of statistical hypothesis testing using Stata
Knowledge and practice of linear correlation and regression with Stata
Knowledge and practice of follow-up studies in surveillance and survival analysis on Stata.
Purpose / Scope of Consultancy
IHVN is seeking a qualified biostatistician and epidemiologist to apply as a consultant to support this training program as follows:
Develop a framework for the advanced epidemiological data analysis training program
Develop and review audio-visual modules for in-person and online self-paced courses
Facilitate in-person training sessions
Minimum Requirements
A Biostatistician with:
A Ph.D. Degree in Biostatistics
At least 10 years’ experience in the Nigerian public health or education sector
Advanced statistical analysis skills
Knowledge of survey methodology and the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) framework in Nigeria
Proficiency in mathematical modeling of epidemic/outbreak surveillance and response
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the use of statistical analysis package (SPSS, STATA, SAS and/or R) and visualization tools (particularly, MS Excel and Power BI)
Proficient in the use of geographical information system (GIS) tool (QGIS and/or ArcGIS) for mapping, visualization and spatial analysis
Excellent writing, presentation and communication skills
An Epidemiologist with:
A Ph.D. Degree in Epidemiology or Consultant Public Health Physician with expertise in Epidemiology
At least 10 years’ experience in the Nigerian public health or education sector
Expert knowledge of outbreak investigation, disease surveillance methods and the IDSR framework
Proficiency in mathematical modeling of epidemic/outbreak surveillance and response
Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills.
