Job Title: Civil Engineering Services Manager
Location: Fajara, The Gambia

Job Details
MRCG at LSHTM is looking for an experienced Civil Engineer to head the Civil Engineering Services based at Fajara.
The post-holder will oversee and support construction, repairs and refurbishments of buildings or other assets across Fajara, Field Stations and collaborator sites.
S/he will monitor contract progress, procedures, workmanship, schedules and overall safety of all Unit civil works.
S/he will also coordinate between the contractor and the consultants to ensure the successful completion of assigned works to the required specification.
Essential Requirements
B.Sc in Construction, Architectural or Civil Engineering or related field
Significant experience in building trades at supervisory level
Knowledge of quality standards in BS codes or other internationally accepted standards
Good understanding of safety standards and ability to translate these into designs, work processes and sites
Proficiency in architectural drawing software i.e. AutoCad, Revit, ArchiCad, Sketch-up etc
Proficiency in MS office suite skills especially in MS Word, Outlook, Powerpoint and Excel
Results oriented, client focus, practical approach to problem solving
Excellent people management skills and openness to feedback, new ideas and ability to help guide staff to solutions for problems
Strong verbal & written communication and presentation skills in English
Strong report/proposal writing skills
Creative problem-solving and flexibility in thinking with a solid track record of simplification, optimization and value engineering
Ability to develop innovative solutions and challenge the “status quo” to improve processes focused on end results
Experience with all aspects of interior fit-out projects – defining requirements, space planning, architectural systems, building systems and equipment, furniture systems, finishes, infrastructure, etc
Experience preparing construction plans, specifications, cost estimates and contract documents, coordinating inputs from relevant service providers and outside vendors on all aspects of a project through final completion
Willingness to travel elsewhere in The Gambia when required
Willingness to work flexible hours which includes weekends and public holidays.
Desirable:
M.Sc in Engineering or related field
Experience in MS Project
Previous experience in tendering process for construction projects and post award supervision.
Salary and Conditions of Service
The salary will be paid in Grade 2, 30 Points of MRCG at LSHTM’s payscale at a net monthly salary of 65, 511 Dalasis. This converts to a take home pay of $1, 300 approximately per month using the prevailing Dalasi/USD exchange rate.
Please note that the salary will be paid in Dalasi and the USD figure is only given as a guide.
The appointment is for 3 years initially and subject to a probationary period of 6 months.
For displaced staff the package will include rent-free furnished accommodation, flights, displacement allowance for spouse and children, contribution to school fees for children and shipment of personal effects.
