Context
We are Johnson & Johnson, the most recognized health and personal care company in the world. Founded in 1886, J&J is a Fortune 50 company with nearly 135,000 employees in more than 275 companies across 60 countries. We blend heart, science and ingenuity to profoundly change the trajectory of health for humanity. This is our purpose. This is what sets us apart.
The J&J Design team works globally across the Company’s business segments: Consumer Health, Pharmaceuticals, MedTech and Corporate. By applying the power of design, we optimize the user experience into the lives of patients, consumers, healthcare providers and employees.
Here, you’ll have the outstanding opportunity to collaborate with business partners from inception and at every stage of design development. This empowers us to both shape and implement programs for more than one billion Johnson & Johnson customers daily.
We foster an inclusive environment where each of us is welcomed, valued, respected and encouraged to bring our authentic selves to work. You will join a remarkably talented and diverse group of people who support, challenge and inspire each other every day.
The Role
Concentrating on J&J’s Global Public Health (GPH) efforts, this role will bring human-centered design to develop impactful solutions for the world’s most underserved communities.
It advocates for health equity while co-creating integrated solutions rooted in a deep understanding of people and systems. Working remotely and embedded in GPH, this role represents JJD on a cross-functional team, engaging a range of global partners in research, synthesis, co-creation, and defining strategic paths to the desired future state.
You in the Role:
Embed a service design perspective in design for behavior and systems change on cross-functional teams in GPH
Deliver human-centered design research, strategy, and innovation practices to address a business need in the Healthcare ecosystem in low- and middle-income countries, collaborating with patients, caregivers, providers, and external partners
Lead teams in synthesis of research, developing engaging insights, compelling narratives, and strategic frameworks to influence the development of equitable care experiences
Enable the effective transition of these insights and strategies into implementation with local ownership through participatory methods at the global and local levels
Increase the value of design by continuously advancing our methods, helping to shape design for health equity and bring leading design practices as a differentiator to critical funding and implementing partners on the global stage
Qualifications
At least a Bachelor's Degree in Design or related field
8+ years of Service and/or Business Design leadership-related experience in shaping Social Entrepreneurship, Social Innovation or Public Health Programming
Experience in building both digital and human-delivered services with community engagement and health promotion activities is a plus
Very skilled in facilitation and participatory design practices that enable others to own the design process – designing ‘with’ and not ‘for’, and enabling others to implement solutions moving forward
Confident qualitative research background with exposure to quantitative methodologies, developing and translating insights into desirable care futures, informing implementable tactics in regulated public health environments
Strong visual storytelling, and clear, concise writing and speaking skills are required
English fluency is required
Candidate Profile:
You are a change-making design professional. Grounded in empathy and curiosity, you are a purpose-led and human-centered leader who is deeply committed to understanding people’s needs and translating those insights into innovative solutions.
The ideal candidate thrives in an environment of collaboration not only with team members, but also with cross-functional business teams to develop transformative brand experiences and understands how the experiences will work across multiple touchpoints.
A problem-solver at heart, you look to simplify complexity by crafting design solutions through an iterative process. You believe that your work can make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. That ideas spark positive change. That small details yield important insights. And that teamwork is the best way forward.
You:
As a self-starter, you navigate ambiguity, and are a confident Service/Experience Design leader. Possessing a real passion for care-centered design, you have the relationship-building competence to collaborate in diverse cultural contexts with partners of different levels of seniority. You possess the talent to synthesize disparate inputs into concrete strategies that help people access and stay on care.
You have a high level of purpose and consistently deliver excellent work.
Experience in working with partners across Asia, Africa, and the United States, and a willingness to practice some flexibility in working hours to accommodate team collaborations across time zones are important as you consider this role.
Above All Else:
Friendly, thoughtful and perpetually curious
Humble to your core with a sharp emotional intelligence
Able to build trust, even when communicating a dissenting point of view
A portfolio or narrative about your work must be included with your application to be considered for the position.
