Job Summary
Long established oil, gas and construction company who has a large pipeline of work requires a Senior Quantity Surveyor and Engineer for their projects across, Nigeria.
The company predominantly participates in the oil and gas, energy and construction sectors undertaking engineering, procurement and construction activities across the country. Our jobs are usually won through competitive tendering and bidding and so the important need to deliver on quality and to work within extremely tight margins. We are in search of a quantity surveyor who understands these and familiar with this sort of work environment.
The ideal candidate will be charged with the responsibilities of controlling and managing construction projects. He or She shall be capable of comprehending technical aspects of construction and accommodate the requirements of the specific project.
The successful candidate will also have some experience of having worked for a medium-large sized Contractor and understands the tight margins these type companies work by.
This is an exciting role for the right individual, one that will be very rewarding and interesting with a good mix of projects.
You will be Reporting to the Head of Projects.
Role Description
Shall be responsible for the cost of any construction project - from initial estimates, right through to providing most competitive sources and prices of materials.
Undertake cost analysis and develop price/forecast the cost of the different materials needed for the project.
Assist in establishing client’s requirements and undertake feasibility studies
Perform risk assessment, value management and cost control on all projects
Prepare tender documents, contracts, schedules, budgets, bills of quantities and other documentation required
Ensure that the specification, bill of quantities and drawings are produced in a technically sound and standardized manner
Establish monitoring and evaluation tools to ensure that all projects are implemented according to plans and completed within the designated time-frame
Standardization of all works and materials monitoring
Coordination of work effort
Track changes to the design and/or construction work, prepare final accounts and variation documents and adjust budget projections accordingly
Select or source for construction materials and advice on procurement strategies, identifying, analyzing and developing responses to commercial risks.
Advice on the services of contractors and/or subcontractors who work on the project
Measure and value the work done on site, analyze the work progress percentage and allocate work to subcontractors
Constantly visit the field to ensure standardization of all works and materials
Prepare valuations for monthly payments for subcontractors and provide advice on contractual claims after thorough review of work done
Prepare schedules of work and monitoring and evaluation templates
Liaise with the client and other construction professionals, such as site managers, project managers and site engineers for quality output and required support
Analyze outcomes on each project and write detailed progress report using pictures where necessary.
Ensure constant updating of the QS database including the different building contracts in current use
Understand the implications of health and safety regulations on projects.
Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
Requirements
A good Bachelor's Degree in Quantity Surveying from a recognized tertiary institution.
