Job Title: Chief Operating Officer (COO)

About the Job
The ideal candidate will be responsible for all operational functions on a day to day basis and support the development and implementation of strategies, through business development and operational plans.
Responsibilities
Lead the development, review, implementation and effective functioning of the commodities market and exchange platform, including all hardware, software, manual systems and associated services, particularly, in providing ethical, timely and professional pricing.
Support the MD/CEO in setting and driving organizational vision and operational strategy.
Supervise senior management team to create, implement and roll out plans for operational processes, internal infrastructure, reporting systems and Company policies, all designed to foster growth, profitability and efficiencies in line with the strategic plan.
Ensure efficient utilization of operational expenditure through procurement and quality control, as well as supply chain efficiency.
Ensure effective recruiting, onboarding, professional development, performance management and retention in the Company.
Conduct research into emerging trends in the global commodities market to enhance the competitiveness of the Company.
Forge strategic partnerships and relationships with clients, vendors, financial institutions, investors and all other professional business relationships.
Provide the Company and regulatory authorities with lessons on the commodities exchange, including operational modelling, that ensure continuous alignment with global developments in trade facilitation.
Requirements
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a related field.
A higher degree is an advantage.
Minimum of 10 years related work experience, with at least 5 years in top management/ executive position, with deep industry knowledge and understanding.
Excellence in organizational management, with the ability to prioritize, communicate key objectives and coach senior-level staff, to develop and implement strategies.
Familiarity with corporate budgeting and fiscal management.
Track record of effectively leading multiple projects and transformation initiatives.
In-depth understanding and practical knowledge of the global commodities exchange market.
Excellent grasp of global trends in technology, data policies and global alignments on technology adoption, adaptation, deployment and safety.
Membership of relevant professional bodies, with at least one being an internationally recognized professional institution. Fellowship of such institution is an advantage.
High level strategic thinking and ability to envision, as well as convey the economic imperatives and subscribers’ benefits, of the Company.
Strong communication skills, emphasizing clarity and concise style of presentation.
Conversational level skills in either Arabic, French or Hausa languages are desirable.
