Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, formerly Federal University of Agriculture, Umudike, was established as a specialized University by the Federal Government of Nigeria via Act No 48 of 2nd November 1992. It began formal activities in May 1993 with the appointment of the first Governing Council and Vice- Chancellor.
The Institution is located in the well-known Agricultural Training and Research town of Umudike, about 9 kilometres from Umuahia town, the capital of Abia State. The major link road to the University is the Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene Federal Road, a direct route to the State Capitals of Abia, Akwa-lbom and Cross River States. Being close to Umuahia, the University is linked through a major North-South Express Road to most parts of the country.

Duties
The Registrar is the Chief Administrative Officer of the University and is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day administrative work of the University except as regards matters for which the Bursar is responsible.
Importantly, the Registrar is also the Secretary to Council, Senate, Congregation and Convocation.
The Ideal Candidate
Candidates for the post must have a good First Degree, preferably in the Humanities, Social Sciences and related discipline.
Possession of higher degree(s) will be an advantage.
Such candidates must have a minimum of twenty (20) years post qualification cognate experience, 12 years of which must be in a University or other Tertiary Institutions and must not be below the rank of a Deputy Registrar.
Candidates must not only be ICT compliant but must also demonstrate capacity to involve and integrate ICT skills in normal University Administrative and Management functions.
Applicants would be expected to show dynamism and flexibility in organizing and managing the human resources component of the administrative arm of the Institution in order to provide the needed strategic support for the achievement of the University's mandate.
Candidates for the post must be such that they would not exceed the gazette retirement age (65 years) before the end of the fiveyear tenure.
