Institutional Capacity Strengthening Specialist at the Catholic Caritas Foundation of Nigeria (Caritas Nigeria)

The Catholic Caritas Foundation of Nigeria (CCFN); also known as Caritas Nigeria is the specialised agency of the Catholic Church in Nigeria for coordinating development and Humanitarian interventions. Since its establishment in 2010 by the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), Caritas Nigeria has reached millions of  beneficiaries  and communities across the length and breadth of Nigeria. Caritas Nigeria is a member of Caritas Internationalis, a global confederation of 166 member nations that shares in the common vision of being the outreach of the Church to those in need.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Institutional Capacity Strengthening Specialist

Location: Nigeria

Key Responsibilities

• Support and accompany Diocesan Caritas organizations, especially the most in need, in their organizational development process; contribute to the coordination of the capacity strengthening efforts across Caritas Nigeria and the Dioceses, also in cooperation with Caritas Nigeria strategic partners; study and analyse capacity strengthening methods, develop training modules and facilitate training sessions.
• Coordinate and facilitate Project Management for Development Professionals (Project Dpro) for Caritas Nigeria.

Main Activities
Contribute to Caritas Nigeria’s efforts for organisational development of Diocesan Caritas Organisations:

• Analyse and facilitate the review process of the Diocesan Caritas organizations’ improvement plans following the assessments against the CI Management Standards and support, in need to monitor the implementation of their improvement plans;
• Work in cooperation with the Church and Society department, all programmes and units of Caritas Nigeria to identify global, national and local trends and organisational needs and develop training modules, to be adapted to different contexts to support the Diocesan Caritas;
• Contribute to identify and share best practices of organisational development within the Caritas Nigeria;
• Host and facilitate coordination meetings with Diocesan meetings and create a platform for peer learning and opportunity sharing.

Contribute to support and accompany Diocesan Caritas in most fragile situations:

• Manage the implementation of the Catholic Relief Services-funded Institutional Capacity Strengthening project across the 57 Catholic Dioceses in Nigeria;
• Support the Dioceses most in need, in collaboration with the Church and Society Department of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria and implement their organisational development process;
• Monitor ongoing processes of capacity strengthening.
• Support Diocesan Caritas in resource mobilization and grant proposal writing.
• Lead the implementation of Caritas Nigeria partnership strategy across the 57 Catholic Dioceses in Nigeria

Contribute to the coordination of the capacity strengthening efforts of Caritas Nigeria:

• Contribute to the implementation of the CI Management Standards (CIMS),
• Contribute to roll-out and implement the Management Standard on Safeguarding;
• Develop studies and research on capacity strengthening methods;
• Enhance visibility of capacity strengthening programmes, tools and experiences through effective communication (website, social media, articles, etc.);
• Enhance the mapping exercise across the Dioceses, in cooperation with other stakeholders involved;
• Collaborate with the other Units and programmes of Caritas Nigeria on areas of common interest and priority;
• Participate in the team working and planning, evaluation and learning session of the IDCS unit and contribute to the Unit’s actions as requested by the supervisor.
• Lead the marketing of Project Dpro to CSOs and NGOs in Nigeria
• Coordinate the training of Caritas Nigeria staff and partners on Project Dpro
• Facilitate Project Dpro trainings and invigilate the certification exams

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

• Master's Degree in Social / Political Sciences, International Cooperation, International Relations or similar sectors;
• Must have Project Management for Development Professionals (PMD Pro, Project DPro) Level 1 and 2 Certification
• At least 5 years of field experience in the management of programmes, especially in complex contexts, with the role of facilitation, coordination and/or programme management;
• At least 5 years experience in programmes of institutional development and capacity strengthening;
• Very good knowledge (oral and written) of English Language
• Knowledge and experience in Strategic Planning
• Knowledge and experience in NGO proposal writing
• Interest in and knowledge of developing training modules and facilitating training sessions (previous experience on it is an asset);
• Interest in and knowledge of data analysis and reporting, research on capacity strengthening methods;
• Capacity and willingness to work in complex environments;
• Capacity of adaptation, flexibility and availability to travel around the country even with short-term notice;
• Capacity and willingness to work under pressure;
• Ability to communicate (oral and written) and build relationships;
• Solid knowledge of the Catholic Church Organisation and Catholic Social Teaching;
• A demonstrable empathy and interest in the work of Caritas and embracing the faith and values of the Catholic Church.
